I just finished a rebuild on my 73 GT750. I finished up the timing and notice that the Left piston is close to TDC when the Right paddle is in the window. All of the pistons are way off when their points are opening. How can things be so far off. I thought maybe I put the sleeve that the point assembly fits on backwards but it is notched so that cannot be the problem. Anyone have any ideas on this?

As was suggested .. pull the points side cover off and the starter clutch to check the key on the end of the crank .

I guess that's one big plus for the 550 with the points being directly coupled to the crank. There's no way to get it out of sync. That is of course you remember to put the pin in that locates the three blade propeller and the cam. Without that pin you could be anywhere 360. You did check that Whit?

Chris and Dave ... thanks you sent me to the right place. It was not a sheared pin. It was a screw up by me when I was putting the starter clutch back together. Some pins came out of the Starter Clutch housing so I took the 3 screws out which holds the gear for the water pump propeller. Was not aware that gear has a mark on the starter clutch housing that I needed to align to. Oh well I told my wife the Buffalo was coming out of a 6 month hibernation at noon today .... looks like sometime tomorrow. Relieved ///Pat
