Hi guys.
I finally bit the bullet & shelled out my hard earned cash on a 74 gt550l. Bike is an american import rot free 17,000 miler that started up after a few kicks & some fresh fuel. The paint on the tank is faded & needs respraying & I need to get the badges off.. how are these held on? also I need some decals for the tank. The electric start needs some attention as well, I think this was a problem on these. The bike is in good condition for the year..I love it already!

The badges pry off with a flat blade screwdriver. They are held on by what Suzuki calls a nut. It's really more like a glorified spring clip and are available. As for the decals I assume you mean the original decals. They have been extinct for a long long time. However there are sellers on eBay that are reproducing them Just do a search.
It will be interesting to see how bad your starter blew up. They all did it through mid 76 when the design was changed.

I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Check your PMs'.
There wasn't a problem with the L model starters, and the J model was OK if looked after.
Pop over to Wombwell and I'll show you mine (Ooeerr, Mother!!! - UK thing that may not translate!!!)

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
