Wire/cable routing help

Post by Marshall »

I haven't been able to find the proper wire and cable routing info for my bike. I've tried looking at pictures but all I can see is that many go under the gas tank. I've also looked in the service manual .pdf that I have but it doesn't show that.

1. Where does the wire harness run? Does it go under the gas tank, behind the coil and run beneath the frame, or does it go under the gas tank and run on top of the frame?

2. What about the throttle/oil pump cable? What holds the oil pump cable? I'm not sure if I'm missing a piece, but mine has a little elbow that just flops around. I don't see any threads on it or any contraption that would hold it in place near the oil pump.

#1 I personally run the wires wherever they reach and are out of sight. They normally run over the coils. Tie stuff back and make sure nothing will be chafing on the wires.

#2 I would like to see a pic of what you are talking about, I don't know anything about a T350, but it sounds like you are missing 1 or 2 important parts. Can you post a pic?
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

It's missing the oil pump cover, but that's just a dust cover, isn't it? What holds this cable end in place?

There should be a threaded adjuster that goes in the 'pillar' on the right of the pump, and the cable goes in that. The cable nipple goes into a round grommit in the hole in the end of the oil pump arm (bent in your pic).
Oh and you need a new cable as yours is cracked, so the inner will be compromised due to moisture ingress.

Other than that, all is tickety-boo. (ish) :wth:

There are other issues too but you might already know about the broken studs etc.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

I'll post some pics when I have some time.

Those aren't broken studs.
They were JIS screws like the ones in the pic that are for the clutch cover.
Presumably, a PO messed up the scews & drilled the screw heads off.

As an amateur mechanic, I worked on these bikes for many years before becoming aware of the difference between JIS & philips screws.
If you don't have them, you should consider getting some JIS screwdrivers.

This pic shows how the cable connects to the oil pump.
The pic is for a T500, but the cable connection is the same.

These bikes are up in years & a number of members have had problems with the oil pumps & oil lines.
Use search & you'll find some posts on:
1) cleaning, testing & repairing the oil lines
2) using stat-o-seal washers as a replacement the the oil line washers
3) rebuilding the oil pump

A forum member sells oil pump rebuild kits on eBay.
But be warned that the pump primer bolt has left handed threads.

Have fun with the rebuild.
