Working on a '75 GT 250 rebuild

Post by soloZ06 »

First an introduction. My name is Patrick and I'm in the US living in the state of Kansas. After high school I worked as a mechanic in a Suzuki shop and later a Yamaha shop, so I have a bit of history that feeds my passion for two stroke street bikes. The first bike I rode was a '67 Yamaha YR1 350 that my dad built from a basket case. Probably not the best bike to learn on especially when my dad had no idea I was riding it
I recently picked up a US spec 1975 GT 250 that I'm trying to figure out what to do with. It looks to be in pretty good shape. The engine turns over and seems to have plenty of compression. Cosmetically, the chrome is excellent, but the person I bought it from had decided that it needed to be repainted, so the paint has been taken off what looks to be a perfectly good tank and replaced with primer :wth: . The tank has just a little rust in it, but not bad. The bike does not have spark, so that's the first thing I'm going to work on. I've pulled off what looks to be a Harley Accel coil, so some coils are first on the list. Right now I plan on keeping the points, so I need to find a set of points and condensers. The wiring harness has also been hacked a bit, so I would also like to find some OEM looking connectors as well. I've found a few parts web sites, but still haven't found a complete set of points and condensers. Any help here would be appreciated. Also, any information on obtaining some coils would be most helpful. I have found a wiring diagram also, but would still like to find a service manual. I've enjoyed reading the posts on this forum and look forward to building this bike with your help.

Thanks,
Patrick

I have fond memories of the Gt250......I had an M model back in 76, and it was a great little bike.
