GT750 Headlights
I recently picked up a 73 Gt750. The headlight that came with it is smaller than the ones on my 76 models. Did the early bikes use a smaller one or is it simply the wrong light? Thanks Dave

Re: GT750 Headlights
All GT750s used 7 inch headlamps, the 72 and 73 used a bowl and rim design with a flat base section while the 74 to 77 used a round bowl and rim.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Thanks. That may be what I have, I know the rim makes it look smaller. I didn't think to take a picture when I was at the shop.

Re: GT750 Headlights
Allan,
I have had a question about the flat bottom rims for the 72 model for a while now. Based on a very small sample of 4 bikes in this neck of the woods with round rims, I am wondering if some did come from the factory without the usual flat bottoms. All four bikes are in the low 12000's and two are within a hundred in terms of frame numbers. Now, I can readily believe that 41 year old bikes have had changes and replacements done to them but their proximity in numbering and within the same market has me wondering about some having round rimes at least for this part of the world? The market for these big bikes would have been limited in the early 70's given the small population so I'm guessing they all pretty much came out on the same boat together and would have possibly been built around the same time. I wonder if they may have hit the Land of Oz around the same time i.e. two smallish markets shipped together.
So, what do you think? Am I delusional and/or reading too much into this?
I wonder what the lads from Aussie may have noticed?
Mike

Re: GT750 Headlights
Looks like a GS---L series headlight.
Open it up & post a pic of the headlight backside.

Re: GT750 Headlights
The headlight bucket should be part # 51810-33600
Used on some model years of GT185 & GT380.
Those bikes came with a conventional sealed beam headlights.
Its a headlight used on several GS----L series bikes.
The L-versions of the GS bikes have smaller diameter headlights like the one you have.
Some of those bikes came with conventional sealed beam headlights & others had H4 halogen headlights.

80 GS850L:

You have an H4 headlight.
The parts to compete the headlight are still available.

Re: GT750 Headlights
No Mike you are not delusional, ALL 72 and 73 GT750s used the flat base headlamp with a painted bowl, if you see otherwise its been changed.
There is no other part number in the books, it has to be a flat base headlamp rim and bowl. Also remember the 72s had the indicators in the headlamp bowl mounting holes so the ears themselves were plain for that year.
