520 Chain Conversion on a 1969 T250

Post by jdrestorer »

Thought I would pass on this information. After reading some posts and reaching out for information this is where I'm going to start and see how this will perform. I'm doing a 13 tooth up front and a 44 in the rear. I was able to find the parts through JT Sprockets. With the addition to the 520 chain I am also installing a T500 swing arm, so the weight as mention for the new parts includes the added length to accommodate the swing arm. Hope you find this helpful and any thoughts?

5 teeth difference is a large gearing change.13/39 against 13/44 is almost 13%.
You will accelerate faster but lose top end and economy, also gear shifting a lot more.
A 14 front might be closer to just drop the gearing a smaller amount, but hey, it's your bike.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

That's a huge difference. First gear will be pointless
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Seems radical but I'm also going with a slightly larger set of tires. This will bring the ratio down a bit. 4.00 x 18 in the rear. Might be one size up from that even, but I will need to see the fitment first.
