72 GT380 Baffles

Post by NJRoaddawg »

Took one of the bikes out for a ride last week(Cold and windy in the North East) . Did not notice anything abnormal during or after the ride. Went out the yesterday to start the bike up and was doing a walk around before hand. It seems that I somehow lost half the baffle on the right side upper muffler. I can see part of the tube about 8-10 inches inside the muffler. I guess it rotted, set screw fell out or something of that nature and at some point a portion of the baffle came out of the pipe. Couple questions. Are the all the baffles on the bike the same(interchangeable)?. Secondly, is there a good source for new baffles?. Checked ebay and noticed some used rusty baffles without packing. Gonna have to take the pipe off and figure out how to grab what is left of the baffle and work it out. Good thing is that it does not seem be rusted in place, I could get some movement out of it when I put a wood dowel in the pipe. Thanks

Supposedly still available new

http://www.buymotorcycleparts.com/suzuki_parts.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can look up your bike model then find the part#. Copy the part# and search Suzuki generically by part# and you will get a list of bikes it is used on. This helps you search for used parts knowing you have possibly more options than just your bike model and year.

The upper pipe baffles L and R are of course the same and bigger diameter than the lower (centre cylinder) baffles. They are a daffy price so well worth securing them very well eg with a piece of lockwire until you're sure the set screws won't let go. I've lost (and found) baffles out of every GT I've had (6 of them) and its a PITA trickling along country roads looking for the oily, pricey lumps!! (the joy of finding them then de-compensated by having to shove it up my jacket on the way home...)

Thanks guys, I did re-trace my ride route from last week but did not find anything. I was on busy roads except for a short distance in my neighborhood so I think the baffle has found its way to a scrap heap somewhere. I did find the part number on the site vintageman listed but its coming up not available in the U.S. I did find it available on a couple UK websites. Gonna call Paul Miller this upcoming week and see if they have it. Next winter project. Pull all baffles from both 380s, clean, inspect and re-resecure with new screws and wire.

your upper baffles are part no-14510-18700.they also fit the T250-70-71.and GT250 73,76.they only fit GT380,72,73.I just brought 2 for my T250..the centre baffles are 14510-36100,these are the same as on the GT 185,GT 380,Gt550.I brought mine from Discount bike spares U K.google them and type in part no.problem solved.

Concerning cleaning baffles. the best way I have found is to turn them cherry red with a oxy=acetylene torch. Let them cool and a wire brush will make them like new. Can't use propane as it isn't near hot enough to do the job.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

You are right. Sorry

The larger baffle for 72 is NA. I originally typed 1973. Me bad. Funny that one is. I would think 72/73 were same, but not for some reason 72 has a unique part#
