Trick to remove oil pump rod ?

On the late model 750 pumps. What is the trick to removing the rod from the pump side that attaches through the plastic clip ? I can't seem to get the plastic clip to unlatch. I don't think I'm that much of a dummy, I can see where the clip kind of overlaps itself and seems to lock itself. I tried sticking a very small flat blade screwdriver between the clip to try to gently pry it open and apart. But, it's not giving in. Im afraid of breaking it, maybe I need to be a little more aggressive. What is the deal here ? Or should I remove the nut and spring from the pump itself and the rest will follow ?

My 74 is easy to remove but the 77 was a bit more difficult.I used a bit of WD 40 on the plastic bit and it pulled out with a little bit of a tug.
Like you I was afraid of breaking the plastic holder

My plastic holder looks nothing like that. That must be the earlier version. Mine is not as simple as just pulling it through. I ll just have to force the issue, if it breaks I ll have to spend 10 dollars for a new one.

The trick is to push and lift back the little top latch with a small flat bit screwdriver so its overlap clears itself from the lower one. Look at it carefully again from a side view of how its latched and you will see what you need to do

Yep, that's exactly as I observed it. But, it wouldn't give. I'll just have to force it a little more. I didn't spend a whole lot of time with it as I was rushing to get other parts sent out to be chromed. But, now that everything is complete I'm gonna figure out something I'd like to do with it to fresh it up.
