Re: gt380 point cam keeps breaking
do you have to retard the timing to compensate for worn points?

New ones are cheap enough. Plenty on ebay.
Just a drop of oil on the felt pad touching the cam is enough.

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

As Suzukidave says the LH points heel is totally worn away, the RH points heel is partially worn away and the centre points don't look too bad.
My guess is you're trying to time two sets of points that are shot and its throwing the one decent set (centre) out.
A new set of points should sort it, make sure you get Kokusan.

Re: gt380 point cam keeps breaking
that makes sense looking at it while im not tired lol, where is a good place to get a set of points that are not 65$ each? or is now a good time to swap to electronic ignition?

Re: gt380 point cam keeps breaking
I know it can be tempting but if you plan on putting on any kind of miles on the bike avoid really cheap points sets , the pivots are not as well made as is the tungsten covering the contacts . Electronic ignition is a good option but could cost you more up front but then its a set it and forget it pretty much .
the older i get the faster i was

OIl will work but they do make a lube just made for cam felts that doesnt sling off like a oil may. I think NAPA carries it .Alan H wrote: Just a drop of oil on the felt pad touching the cam is enough.

Re: gt380 point cam keeps breaking
im not opposed to dropping a few bucks on a electronic ignition but all the links in the one topic i saw on here covering it seemed like all the companies stopped making them or switched up there sites and dont list them anymore

It just that they are small companies that probably don't appreciate how much better sales would be if they had good websites & ordering systems.
Accent has a nice setup for the GT750/GT380 because its easy to install & has no external box to mount.
Send them an email to get pricing & ordering/payment info.

Newtronics are popular. I have two of them.
They sell via eBay but don't consistently list their products.
Last time I noticed the eBay listing, it was priced around $230 ~ $250.
The only US retailer I knew of stopped selling them. Send them an email to get pricing & ordering/payment info.
