T500 Daft question

Post by Rustygt550 »

On a t500 do the coils leads exit out the front (looking from the rear of the bike ) or from the rear of the coil.

In the parts diagram it shows them exiting out the rear as in the coils mounted with the leads pointing rearwards.

After setting up the timing on my bike & checking for a spark the left hand point is firing the right hand cylinder if the coils are mounted with the leads facing forward

Why does this post read like an Irish joke

I don't think it makes a blind bit of difference which way the coils point. What really matters is which lead from the points connects to which coil. Swap the points leads from one coil to the other or just swap the HT leads over from one plug to the other.

:D ha ha it was not meant to sound like a joke!

I just thought that the left coil fires the left cylinder etc

I have seen a few t500,s with the coils mount different ways some with leads forward & some with leads rearwards

It is normal practice for the left coil to fire the left plug..BUT which points set is that coil connected to? If the left coil is connected to the right points set, then it will fire the right coil. That's the issue here I think. The points sound like they are connected to the wrong coils.
