Other than paint color and changing the "500" badges a bit year to year, the side cover and oil tank assemblies were the same from 1969 to the last of the GT500's in 1977.

Just out of curiosity, does your 1969 frame number fall within the range of 16000 to 28000 ? Take a look at this thread in the Restoration section.

Thanks !

John - that lower photo you've posted is of a 1968, or early 1969 Mk I. From the Mk II onwards, the side covers and tanks are all the same base part number (47211-15100 and 44610-15101) excepting colour and badge differences as Jim mentions.

I think you will find the later model oil tanks post 75 had 4 attachment points not 3 as the earlier models had. The side cover was the same for all models though (excluding 1968 model)
1969 T500
1973 T500
1971 T500 (being restored)
1976 GT500 (being restored)

Quite possible - but they are all the same root part number though (44610-15101) and they are all the same elongated shape matching the shape of the side cover. Unlike the rounder shape used on the Cobra.

I admit that I do kind of prefer the 1968 cover and oil tank shape - I also like the more finished look of the injector pump cover and oil lines cover. I'll be doing up my Cobra this winter so I'll be able to post photos of my 1977 alongside the 1968 next the spring :D :D

Just goes to show you learn something new all the time - I did not know this but given Suzuki tweaked the frame a bit between the T500 and the GT500, it makes sense.

Thank you!
