Thats how the clutch release worm assembly looks from the outside scorch, although yours has screwed out further due to the cable being disconnected.
The tension spring just pulls the assembly clear of the two push rods hence the procedure of backing the screw and lock nut out 1/4 of a turn to give that running clearance.
There is no cover on that side, but there is a dust seal on the inside of the sprocket cover where the push rods go through.

After installing the stock airbox last week, the bike's performance improved a lot. Today I took a long (120 mile) ride today, and found that turning the air pilot screw in from 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 made the bike run worse (much worse, almost would not run). So I backed it out to 1 3/4 and now the bike is running almost perfectly, no real flat spot off idle, and accelerates from a stop seamlessly.Scorch wrote:Thanks, Mark.
Well, today marked a milestone--got the carbs back on after balancing the slides and cleaning up the plunger seats, and it ran really well.
Sometimes is still idles 500 rpms to high or low, and I have to adjust the throttle stop a tiny bit, but I think that will settle out eventually. It is almost perfect now.
This weekend I am going to check the timing with a light, and see how close I can get to spot on with that.

good going mate ,just when you think you have got it sorted.
i am surprised it wanted leaning off but if it works it must be right.
i went to yankees tavern today and there was harleys out the wazzooo but my GT750 and this uber clean RZ500 were the most popular bikes there.


alegedly the RZ owner knows a guy that has a bunch of RG500s.

On the pilot air screw, I would have thought the same. However, from this source, it appears the location of the screw has something to do with it:

I had to work today, otherwise I would have loved to join you. Would like to investigate this case of RG500s, that's the Holy Grail of Suzuki street bikes.

If the screw is turned in, it reduces the amount of air and richens the mixture. If it is turned out, it opens the passage more and allows more air into the circuit which results in a lean mixture. If the screw is located near the front, it regulated fuel. The mixture will be leaner if it is screwed in and richer if screwed out.
It appears mine are in the back of the carb, so screwing out should make it leaner...

On the rg issue , I will keep the board updated and if we go to Yankees again I will give you the heads up but it is normally a spur of the moment thing , but by golly it was hot on the way home !!.

Thanks, Eric. Today was inspection sticker day, so I made numerous trips to the Jiffy Lube. After a while they stopped checking the bikes and just slapped the stickers on.

What could they have possibly found wrong? Or don't they know how to inspect a motorcycle?
