Oil lines, leaking banjo fitting on oil pump

Post by bobotech »

So I decided to clean up the oil lines and get my pump working properly. At this point, the oil pump was pumping new oil though 4 of the 6 lines. There also was oil puddling by the oil pump, not sure where it came from. So I went and took everything apart. Removed the banjo fitting bolts on the head and disconnected the supply line to the oil pump. Used rubbing alcohol and a syringe and cleaned out all the lines of the old oil and everything appeared to be flowing well.

Turns out that the supply banjo fitting on the oil pump itself was cracked and leaking. That was where my oil leak was coming from. I gently pulled on it and sure enough, it just broke in half. So my question is where can I get a banjo fitting that will work? I'm not into concours restoration, I just want to get this working so I wonder where I could get one or find an adequate substitute.

I'm not familiar with the 550 but assuming that it's similar to the 750, is it the metal banjo that broke, or the plastic pipe from the oil tank.

I'd think that McMaster Carr would probably have something that would work. I seem to recall that they are the same as or similar to the water header tank on a GT. If so, someone is bound to have a spare.

Go to eBay - motors - motorcycle - parts and type in suzuki gt550. then search the engine and components sub. There are 3 sets of oil lines on there now. Like this one:

I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

I'm not sure where you are located (info isn't in your profile) but I think you are looking for part 16810-33030 ? The fitting on the line from the oil tank to the pump is a 6mm banjo which as TZ375 mentions you may be able to get from several sources. Crooks in the UK still sell these, with the oil line, for the GT750 which would be close, and Reiner in Germany sells a reproduction part for the GT550 (under the same number 16810-33030). 8)

If its just the metal banjo onto the oil pump from the oil tank hose those are still available.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Here you go Ian, 09363-06006, its basically the same as the one on the overflow tank on the Buffalo. However I've bought some at various points in time and got both the smooth bodied type and the ribbed type, so its a hit or miss thing with Suzuki.
What I also do is to bore the hole on the spigot out to the next sized drill since it tends to be a bit small in my opinion

The 550 appears to have been superseded by 16810-33031and appears to include the banjo plus hose. That GT header tank part number is available from bike bandit for $3.43 plus shipping. Plus some hose and a clip. Not a big investment.

Well I wanted to fix it today so I went to my local used bike wrecking yard. I went out in the yard and found a few Kawasaki 3 cylinder 2 strokers that had oil injection and a pump and lines. The banjo fitting on the oil pump of the Kawi was the same size as the Suzuki so I cut the line and grabbed a couple of the banjo fittings. Free too, the yard owner just said to keep them.

Works great. I used larger line and have no leaks anymore. Got the bike running again and the oil injection is pumping on all 6 lines finally.
