Hi Guys,
Anybody have an idea what my power increase will be on a GT550 with Jemco pipes, electronic ignition and properly jetted stock carbs? - Gary

Re: Chambers and Power
Hard to say exactly, and depends if you're using the stock airbox & filter but I'd guess an extra 4-5bhp.
That may not sound much, but based on the experience I've had with my stock 380 and chambers (Allspeeds), it transforms the feel of the bike too.
For example, mine will now pull 6th easily in any conditions, it's no longer an overdrive gear. The added sharpness and edge as it gets up on the pipe at 5,000 is a thrill, and of course the music is something else
You also lose a good 15+ pounds in weight, the bike feels slimmer and lighter.
I'd suggest fitting the pipes, and if you're using stock airbox / filter / carb settings, see how she rides at modest speeds and throttle openings. After a good 1500+ miles on my chambers, I haven't had to rejet ... but your mileage may vary, etc etc.
Good luck, keep us posted.

Re: Chambers and Power
thanks for the info Craig. I have never had the bike running correctly as i bought it with bad crank seals, but just had them re-done this winter. Getting closer to having it ready to ride!!

Re: Chambers and Power
Hi GDH......fit the pipes ! Even if there was no gain whatsoever, a 2 stroke is meant to have expansions. As the previous post says, it makes a whole new bike of it.
Fitting expansions is just one link of a chain of mods required to gain a power increase on a 2 strokes....each mod adding a little to achieve a worthwhile total, and each mod complimenting the others. You may well be able to run your bike for ever, after fitting the pipes, without rejetting the carbs.....but I would seriously suggest you look carefully at the way your engine is running before using it in anger, as melting a piston will be a possibilty.....

Keeping old 2 strokes alive !
