gt 500 bars

Post by james »

i have on my bike. i think original bars. i rode 200 miles this weekend, very windy i am sitting upright, i know you guy,s here have probably tried every combination of bar,s so i am trying to save experiment time, i do not want to be hung over the tank, so any comfortable suggestions that have worked well for anybody, i like to ride long ,
even in the summer we have a little wind so i think i should change them.
also has anybody seen a nice windshield or fairing. something that is practical but not large, has anybody found one or tried one that works thank you

I have a Spitfire windshield on my bike now. Ordered from the local shop for about $55 and it's easily removable without tools. No trim and fairly small so it doesn't detract from the look of the bike, if that's what you're going for. Even being as small as it is it makes a world of a difference stopping wind. You might want to try just a windshield first to see if that helps arm fatigue before buying bars too. My 2 cents.
No really... it's supposed to smoke.

In the pics I have seen of GT500's the bars look very close to what was on my GT550 stock, too tall. I put on a set of "superbike" bend bars from aftermarket, they are lower and slightly more forward. They have a couple inches of rise and a little pull back which leans you forward into the wind some, but not bent like a full sport bike, just a slightly aggressive position. I find them much more comfy as I don't have a lot of weight on my wrists at lower speeds but at higher speeds I am forward enough not to be pushed back too much by the wind.

I have the Spitfire windshield also, not a great fit but stand it somewhat upright and it blocks off the wind pretty well, a little taller would help. I changed out the thumb set screws with allen screws.
