I am done with Ebay:

I list anywhere from 5-7 items for sale a month. Im tired of the monthly invoices at 20-30 dollars. If your items sell, understanding that you pay for their service. But, i still get invoices in that price range when I sell nothing. This past month I sold 2 items totaling 80 dollars. Buy the time I payed shipping, Ebays invoice. I may have profited 40.
Tired of the extraordinary fees when nothing or very little is sold. Done selling there. This seems to be what I'm looking for. No fees if item doesn't sell, no listing fees. And a reasonable 5% fee on sold item. A lot of used Buffalo parts. Rant over, lol! http://www.justparts.com/Sell-On-JustParts/Fees" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That is a good site. I know of a couple other, similiar sites. Ioffer.com being one. That haven't gained popularity, yet. But, Im sure they will in time. Ebay in it's beginning was awesome. But, like everything else. It got ruined with greed. It's too expensive to sell there. One reason, you see rediculous prices from sellers.

I'm back, lol ! I guess it does pay to cry and gripe sometimes. Did you guys notice ? Ebay for the most part has done away with listing fees and only charges if your item sells. I guess they are beginning to see they are no longer a monopoly and beginning to fear competition. That or they honestly listened to my customer survey feedback ? Doubt it. Lol ! I haven't the slightest problem paying for any service. My only gripe was, it was beginning to get very expensive from a seller stand point. That change is the improvement they needed. Impressed.

In the UK, we have a site called Gumtree. It's not an auction....classified listings only, but entirely free to list and sell, no fees whatsoever. It is highly pulicised, with many adverts for it on TV.

Guess who owns it?............Ebay.

We have Gumtree here in Oz. No fees (unless you want to promote your ad). I use it to buy and sell and am happy with it. Mind you there are some wankers who use it to scam folks. If you advertise something like a car the buyer will send you an email with a link to PayPal so you can confirm they have paid. Trouble it is a fake webpage and they get your login details and you're screwed.

Sounds exactly like out Craigslist here in the U.S. A lot of crap you have to put up with on Craigs. But, I have successfully sold and bought a few bikes using it over the years. Craigslist is not a good place to sell, buy old bikes or old bike parts. From what I've seen.

I have had a wanted ad on Gumtree for a couple of years now. Many of the enquiries have been...interesting. Mostly older members (about my age...) of the community who are a little bit baffled by modern things like email, cameras in mobile phones and use of electronic payment methods.

I suppose they give me humorous anecdotes to relay to my friends...and that is part of motorcycling.

The local "free to advertise" papers are worse. Had conversations with a few guys over bikes for sale and I swear I could hear banjos playing in the background.

I have been with eBay since, 2002, and in the start, what you paid to list is what you paid to sell... And PayPal fees ( owned by eBay too ) but as you said, thing ante what they se to be.. There's a lot of list for free now, 0% insertion fee week ends, and only pay if it sells... Funny that! :? :?

Another thing that is growing tired. Is the way Ebay is now paying it's sellers. The new policy of adding a tracking number to the buyers transaction. Or otherwise having to wait 21 days for payment to hit your account. It's for good reason. But, doesn't work. I have added a tracking number several times and the payment still does not hit my account for 21 days. BS.

Valid points- I've been on there since 1999, and have experienced the changes. The worst thing for sellers is the Final Value Fee. Add the Paypal fees in, and at the end of the sale you've paid at least 12% to eBay. Along with your time setting up and babysitting listings, shipping and materials costs it's actually more like 15%. A real eye opener is reading the comments and complaints from sellers on the community forum- "seller central". That said, the worldwide exposure has earned me much more than I could have gotten any other way on some desireable parts I've put at auction instead of Buy It Now.

It is an improvement. Unfortunately, they are pulling wool over peoples eyes. No listing fees. But, PayPal fees, etc have increased. They need to make their money, understand. But, do you have to rape people's profit entirely ?

That's why stuff isn't cheap on ebay.
But the good bit is, it goes out to a world wide audience of folks who want to buy stuff.

Yer pays yer money, and takes yer choice.
Or keep the stuff in the garage/shed/whatever and make nothing.

List carefully and list honestly and if it's above, say £50, then make it collection only and cash on pickup.
