I don't know any body who likes them. they were nowt but trouble.
the engine lay out wasn't thought out well enough. as I understand it..it used to over heat.....
I rode mine around in Brisbane traffic - 40C/75% humidity in summer all the bloody time, I used to commute 30 kms a day on it.
It NEVER overheated, in fact I found it needed a fair bit of warming up to run cleanly on cool mornings.
AFAIK, the engine layout was virtually the same as the works RG of the era that was winning plenty, so I'm not sure how it could be described as 'not thought out well enough'.
It's downfall (as mentioned above) was small, skinny tyres and small-ish brakes, although I didn't find it too bad. At least tyres were cheap.
In my experience the engine was as good as bullet-proof.
My bike had plenty of k's on it as well and was completely untouched, so if dramas were going to show up, I should have seen 'em.
I did no work on it at all while I had it other than normal maintenance.
Sounds to me like the old 'a mate of the brother of a bloke in a pub who knows someone who rode one once said they were crap, so it must be so' syndrome.
You can't know what something is really like until you've experienced it yourself.
It's probably NOT worth the money he's asking though, but it is very good.
