I don't know any body who likes them. they were nowt but trouble.
the engine lay out wasn't thought out well enough. as I understand it..it used to over heat.....
Bollocks...
I rode mine around in Brisbane traffic - 40C/75% humidity in summer all the bloody time, I used to commute 30 kms a day on it.
It NEVER overheated, in fact I found it needed a fair bit of warming up to run cleanly on cool mornings.

AFAIK, the engine layout was virtually the same as the works RG of the era that was winning plenty, so I'm not sure how it could be described as 'not thought out well enough'.
It's downfall (as mentioned above) was small, skinny tyres and small-ish brakes, although I didn't find it too bad. At least tyres were cheap.

In my experience the engine was as good as bullet-proof.
My bike had plenty of k's on it as well and was completely untouched, so if dramas were going to show up, I should have seen 'em.
I did no work on it at all while I had it other than normal maintenance.

Sounds to me like the old 'a mate of the brother of a bloke in a pub who knows someone who rode one once said they were crap, so it must be so' syndrome.
You can't know what something is really like until you've experienced it yourself.

It's probably NOT worth the money he's asking though, but it is very good.

...I think he meant the Ariel. Sorry to muddy the waters with the over-abundence of pics.

And the transfer ports are marginally different to every other GT750 too.

Oops. I didn't take the other square-four pics into account, could have something there...

I don't know too much about Ariels.
I have heard/read that early engines (the first pic with the single pipes for each side) were prone to overheating but they solved the problem, essentially, with the later design.

I do know that they're going for much higher prices than any RG.
A late square-four came up for sale on fleaBay here in Oz recently with a
reserve of $25,000.
I know they're rare, but that's stupid money IMHO.

Would be a challenging project. If it were a '76 I'd be interested.

I used to own that motorcycle, and I crated it and sent it to Florida from MN on a truck.

Here's my ebay video on it from a while ago:

He drove it 4 miles since I had it. It is in nice condition, but certainly not mint. He did put some parts on it to make it look better.

I think I sold it to him in the 200 to 400 buck range - I bought it for less than 200, I wonder what he'll get.

Still have mine since new, around 40000 miles with engine still genuine even the gearbox, very fast around 230 kilometers real or 140 MPH +, very ligh and exciting bike.
One of the two bikes I would never sell (the other is my 69 H1).
