It would be interesting to see what he has on it for an ignition...

The components he has there may be worth a bit, but his starting bid is high enough I guess (carbs, ported cylinder, crank, ignition, etc.)

Arne,

I think I might have spoken with the guy that owned it. If its the same, he raced this bike in PMRA and sent me some porting diagrams and ignition diagram for the bike. I'll have to dig it back up but I think it was a home built, wasted spark setup.

Cool, thanks. I was wondering if he had a lucas rita hooked up to it or something (I always wanted to see some photos of that setup)

I found my emails to the guy I believed may have been the previous owner of this bike. Here is the discussion...

Thanks again for the picture. It was great to see another Buffalo Drag bike. You said you were running consistently in the mid-11’s. A couple of questions: I suspect you ported the barrels and increased the size of the carbs to get there. Did you modify the cylinder head or is it stock.

#1 The barrels are ported to full road racing specifications. #2 Yes, we milled the heads .060 to raise the compression. Some heads we have modified even farther to get 150-155 lbs compression. #3 It is not necessary to straighten up the spark plugs because we have run both kinds of heads with a straight spark plugs holes and the stock angle plug holes and could not tell a difference in performance. #4 On the squish we did not worry about it, we just milled the heads to get maximum compression and still leave about .035 between the head and the piston.


Also, I was interested in the MSD multi-channel electronic ignition system but was not sure if AMA Prostar allowed it for Super Eliminator class. Did you run stock points or upgrade to some type of electronic system?
#1 We build our own electronic ignition system. We use over-the-counter automotive parts and the parts consist of a Ford coil, a Chevy switching module, a Chrysler roluctor and a Chrysler electronic pickup.


I pulled the oil pump with the understanding that the outer crank bearings would receive sufficient lubrication but I’m now having doubts…how did you set yours up and did it remain reliable? #1 The most reliable way is to use pre-mix 32 to 40:1 which is about 4 ounces of oil per gallon of gasoline.


I see you have upgraded exhaust to 3/3. Jemco? We have used home made expansion chambers, ocolot chambers, J&R chambers, and Ron Grant chambers.

I have seen that bike somewhere recently. I seem to think that the owner (current or past) had a pile of Ocelot parts which I suspect are the mortal remains of the job lot Ocelot sold off when they closed the doors.

Most of it was long past its use by date, but would be nice to have in a collection.

Richard, youre exactly right. Jerry Barker was the previous owner that built the bike and raced it. H bought up the remainder of Ocelot racing...or at least the parts. The ebay seller bought all that from him along with the bike. It used to be blue though. No tellig what else the ebay seller has or if he knows what some of it is worth.

The funny thing for me was the comment about cranking compression at 150-155. that was with a TR750 tall exhaust port. No wait a minute. There's not enough metal for that tall of a port, so he either spoaced teh barrel up or he's taking poetic license there.

Either way, my last Gt750 had 150 PSI of compression with a slightly raised exhaust port and I'm not telling how much came off where, but it was a lot and that bike was sweet to ride around the block. I never had the chance to wind it out though.

But back to the thread, the ocelot stuff was a mixed bag of forged pistons in machined and part machined formats in stock and 850cc sizes. Interesting but probably not as good as modern pistons. There were one or two good welded and machined heads and a pile of stockers awaiting machining.

I didn't see what the barrels were like - that I would like to see.
