Diesel engines?

Post by Arne »

I've got a buddy with a Ford diesel tractor 600 series from maybe the 50's or 60's.

Anybody know how to time valves on diesels? Is it the same as a gas engine?

Most cars and truck motors are timed using marks on teh timing gears which point at each other.

In the absense of any other data, I'd set it up symmetrically around TDC.

You mean tractors Need Worked on other than Starters Alternators or Waterpumps?

Actually I'm a Case IH and Cummins Mechanic.

I'll see what I can Find out Arne.

Oh this is from November. :?

If it's anything like a Cummins or Case you'd want to pull the Valve cover or Covers and Adjust the Valves with Feeler Guages. How much I don't know. :?

Cool, I actually haven't done the work yet. I just know that my buddy and another guy did something to it and now it doesn't run. Unfortunetly old 700 dollar tractors are kind of like old japanese motorcycles, not really worth bringing into a professional mechanic moneywise (if you can even find one to work on it)
