Hi everyone I've been lurking for a while trying to get the scoop on the GT550. FInally, after a few failed attempts, got one off of an unsuccessful ebay posting. It's still with the seller and I'll be picking it up in a few weeks.

Here it is, from the bad side.

Can anyone tell me what the non-aligned side cover / airbox is? Hope it's just not bolted on.

Other, nicer side:

8) Hi from a sunny Sydney Sunday, just been out on my GT750A,not far, but still wearing the GT grin,!
I know exactly what's wrong with the air box/carb alignment,I have a friend with a restored GT550 1974 "L" model. There are differences in the frames between models & this causes problems with fitting the air box/side covers, the only way he solved the problem was to do away with the original air cleaner & fit carbie pods, :? It looks like your bike might be a bit of a "bitzer" as his is...? You can check engine/frame numbers for Suzuki's year models by google search "Suzuki Engine & Frame Numbers"
Hope this helps out...I'm sure you'll enjoy her once you get her sorted out to your satisfaction...!!

Cheers,
GT750Battleship.

cool, it's still Saturday evening here, and a bottle of wine is being opened :-)

Are the side covers interchangeable, or do I also need to swap the oil tank?

:? That's something I don't know,I shouldn't think the frame covers can be swapped,as they fit differently to the frame, oil tank is also different according to part number reference...will speak to my Irish friend tonight to ask him more about the differences in the frames, covers etc...!
Cheers,

No... Not interchangeable.. Suzuki diden't make it easy for us... Air box.. 550 only /oil tank 550 only / side panels 550 only..parts won't fit 380/500/750. The early gt750j oil tank will fit other 75's but not right for the year ( strap fits in a different way.) that's a nice clean bike, love that colour.. The right hand side air box, looks like it's not on right, but could be a daily rider... Good luck...

Looks like you could have a nice rider with just a little work.

Your bike should look like this:

There should be 2 bolts attaching the top of the air cleaner to the frame. See:

Air cleaner boot looks distorted.
Problem might just be missing bolts & hardened/ distorted boots.
But the carb boots might be a problem too.

Yes it looks like it might be an OK thing to fix - the bike's not here yet so I can't really look. All the intake parts appear available on ebay as well.
