1966 Lambretta LI150 (but bored to 175) I learned how to fall of....dismount from a moving cycle on this.

1965 BSA Lightning Clubmans - A bit of a step up from the Lambretta Image

1971 T500R - A bike that actually got me home everytime and of course started my affection for T500s Image

1972 Triumph Trident T150 - That thing ran open bell mouthed carbs and a Marving 3-1, at 7000 rpm it sounded sweet Image

???? BSA A10 based chop - never got it finished though Image

1976 Kawasaki Z900A4 - Twin discs, I finally discovered motorcycles don't have to have crappy brakes. As a twenty year old on a new Z900 in the the long hot summer of 76 I had an excellent time  Image

???? BSA C15 for a couple of months
???? Royal Enfield 250 in trials trim

1978 Piper framed Z900 with gas flowed head and Road/Track cams etc. 150 mph + in 1978 Image

1975 Kawasaki Z1B Image

Seeley TR500 Suzuki - sob  , long gone to pay the mortgage just after I became a householder. Image

Suzuki T500J Image

1981 Yamaha LC350 (new) - stolen Image

2x Honda CD175 for commuting. Those bikes could sure take a damn good thrashing

2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200 (New) Image
2003 Suzuki SV1000S (new) - Still in the garage Image

2 x Honda VFR400R (NC30) - Still in garage

Suzuki T500M (in T500R colours) - Fully restored and gleaming in the garage  Image

Suzuki TS125C - Fully restored and in the garage  Image

GT500 (bones of) Future project Image

1966 500 Triumph Speed Twin - currently draining my cash as it is restored Image

Mine is rather a short list!
1968 YCS-1 180cc Yamaha. Bought it used in 1972. Found out how much fun it was to piss off the bigger 4 strokers with my little 2 stroker!
1974 GT550L. My daily rider! Bought her new in 1974! She's my Pride and Joy!
1977 GT750B. This is my "project" bike. I bought it for my son a couple of years ago. We rebuilt the engine from the crank up and made smoke last year! He's some proud of what we've done so far!

Just a side note and a bit off topic, but my son is now 24. He's taken a 2 year "Automotive Technician" college course and now works in the field. He's amazed by how many "Technicians" are out there who don't have a clue as to what points and condensers are!! Not a mention of them in college or in the field he works in. Ball bearings on a crankshaft? Needle bearing in the connecting rods? Never heard of such a thing! Press apart a crankshaft to change the seals? They've never seen a crankshaft that presses apart! When he talks about the GT750 to the guys at work, they ask, a 2 stroke engine? What's that? A weedwacker or chainsaw motor? You have to mix the oil with the gas, don't you??
He's thanked me for teaching him about the "Old School" mechanics! How to think and solve problems, how things work and why, to be hands on, without plugging in a computer to do the diagnostic!! Today's cars and trucks are computer controlled, and today a computer has to be used as a diagnostic tool, but yesterday's engines were a whole different breed!

Zunspec, great idea posting the vintage pics! Looks like you've had some good rides over the years. The bikes look good too

Cliff, Could you post some pics of the GT750B you and your son have been building if you have some? I'd like to see the project. I get what you mean about mechanics now not being trained about the "older" technology. A few years back I called my local jap shop to price out some work. When I asked the mechanic if he had experience working on Water Buffalo's he said they didn't work on Harleys there. I couldn't believe it.

Looks like the thread has slowed down enough now that I could crunch some numbers. Of the 15 people that posted we've had a cumulative total of about 300 bikes!... and one 3 wheeler push bike (There johnakay I counted it). That comes to about 20 bikes a person. TitanPerformance had the most (55 give or take). Sorry no prize though. I had just about the least. Yeah, sounds like I need to catch up. Just turned 27 though so I guess I have some time yet, although I can't see myself ever selling the Madbuffalo. The average bike year came to a '79 which makes sense given that most of us have a few '60's to 70's collectables and a newer "everyday" bike. In all I think this has proven that we all should be in some form of AA for motorcycles :D  If we get some more posts I'll try to run the numbers again.

Josh
