going on my local craigslist soon at $2400.00

Lots of cleanup work done to it. Ran it for another 45 miles today. No probs.

Needs:
rear blinkers
fuel cock chamfered (starves for fuel at WOT in 4th & 5th gear) no probs if doing it while on prime setting

New tires
pods
new battery

Really runs out pretty well. Absolutely would not sell if I had a job but have been unemployed since last nov. Need the money desperately!!!

Sam,

I'm thinking you probably don't want to part the bike out (and I don't want to sound like a circling vulture)...

But, I remember (I think) you mentioning the effectiveness of those later model calipers.

Say, if you had the original brakes to go back on and you were willing to separate, I'll take them off your hands for my M project.

Otherwise, you'll sell your bike if you have to - that's a great looking A.
If I was a US resident, I'd give it some serious thought.

How's this - give the buyer a 'return' clause. When your financial circumstances improve, you have the right to buy it back for the sale price.

Hi Paul,

well, I dont think I posted about the brakes BUT, since I have ridden it for over 60 miles now, I will say that the front brakes are awsome and the rear brakes SUCK!!

I dont even know what the original brakes are supposed to look like. I only knew that the front fender is not what is supposed to be on there. I do know the calipers are supposed to be on the other side of the forks.

I have just gotten this thing back together after occasionally working on it for the last 6 months. I doubt I would be willing to pull it apart at this time. I am about to not be able to pay my rent and other bills so moving this is very important to me right now. I am amazed I have kept my sanity for as long as I have. I am a worker. I NEED to have something to occupy my time and to pay my bills.

I really HATE selling it but it is one of several things I may have to do that I really dont want to do.

I wish you were closer so you WOULD buy it!!

No probs, I understand.

Those calipers are, I reckon, early GS1000 maybe?

They fit (obviously) perfectly on GT fork legs, turned around, and I've been told even though they are still a single-piston design, work much better than stock.
I just assumed you'd done the upgrade - nice that the PO had done it for you though, that's a nice find!

Honestly it crosses my mind sometimes about buying internationally. Shipping a bike out of the US to Australia, while it isn't overly expensive, is still a royal PITA with crating and all the rest. Much easier and really, it should go to a good home locally.

There is a market for these bikes now - as much as it's a bloody shame to let one go, you should get decent money for it.
As a comparison, here in Oz, a gray M in really nice condition got sold on eBay for over AU$10,000 - that's getting close to H2 money!

Chainsaw, what kind of work do you do? Maybe there is something here in Louisiana.... We don't seem to be as bad off as the rest of the country. I know you would hate to move, but you 'gotta do what you gotta do'. This almost seems like a 'Grapes of Wrath' remake....

Well, my last 17 years have been in the Stair building industry. Not so much as actually building them but in management, purchasing, estimating and so on.

I am currently looking to get the heck out and as far away from any type of construction field as possible.

So really I am looking for a job as a purchasing agent, purchasing manager, general manager of a small business, estimator of some type or any customer contact related business as I am very good at meeting new people and helping them solve any problems business related.

So, got any openings or good links to some help wanted postings down your way?

Also, I really appreciated your concern in that it was enough to ask what I do. THANK YOU!!

Chainsaw, I did a quick check on http://www.laworks.net and there were several purchasing management or supervisor positions open. If you feel the need to make a change in location, etc. come on down!!! If I can, I will help you get situated here. If things work quickly enough, you may not have to give up anything including your bike. It would be a shame to start all over getting another bike to suit you. Good luck.
