Need GT550 Sprocket cover

Post by RossB »

Hello
Found out that the extra engine I got with my 73 GT550 is missing Left sprocket cover and clutch actuator. Looked online no luck lots of right sides!
Thanks!

Usually a few on ebay. If you'd said a couple of days ago, I could've fetched on over with me!

Sometimes they get damaged by poor chain maintenance. I've had to replace the one on my GT380 for that reason. If the chain breaks or jumps the sprocket it can obliterate the cast cover. Moral of story; oil chain regularly, use good quality chain and sprockets and adjust correctly and frequently.
Good luck finding one. I'm sure you will eventually if you keep a regular search on ebay and keep asking.

There is one available on ebay but, as you can see, this one has suffered the same fate as I told you about.

I suppose it might be possible to get welded up, but would not be very tidy in the least. Can't think why they would bother listing one in this condition.

A good mate had one similar - from a T250 - repaired by a VERY good TIG welder, and after polishing looks good as new.

Cool. Must have been a very good weld job to get it looking that good

Hey ..

I have just purchased a GT550 with extra engines and loads of parts plus a GT500 76 also with extras
Very exciting as the 500 has a rebuild crank 500kms ago and the one extra 550 engine was rebuild crank and all 1200kms ago.
So just joined here as ill be stuck with Sooo many parts that needs clearing soon . :))

I think i saw a extra sprocket cover in there as well. Chances are ill break an engine up as its easier to ship :)
