I'm only a state away, but wish I lived closer to you.. I might have been interested in the 72 550.
Are you parting them out on eBay or selling them complete?
How does that compare to the 750 4 L/S ? I have never owned one of these early 4 L/S drums, to be honest, I didn't know that the smaller bikes had this drum too.....I had assumed the 550 and 380 had a similar 2 L/S like the T500.
No, the 550J and 750J had a 4LS brake. It was much better than the single disc on the 550.
I had an original 550J in 1972 and got a disc kit when the K model came out. My mate with a T500 bought it and was well chuffed.
The disc was crap in the wet so I went back to the 4LS with Ferodo green linings - much better. What was good enough for Crooks Suzuki's production racer was certainly good enough for me! The classic racers go mad for them and I've seen them go at £500+ just for the complete hub without a rim.
I'm still toying with putting the 4LS from my 550J on the K.
It wasn't enough brake on the 750 so that got twin discs on the K, the 550 got a single disc on the K.
The 380 brake was the same as the 250 and not enough brake. My mate had a (drum front) 380J in 1972 and Suzuki's answer was Ferodo green linings fitted at the factory in Chapel-en-le-Frith. He was the first to get it done and we had a tour round the factory while they did his brake.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
well i post things high on ebay cause of their fees, paypal fees and shipping. that's why i provide my number and call and work out a deal. alot of times i get offered way lower than my asking and i take it. cash in person is always the best.
in this case i feel pretty confident that i can get close to my asking. also i ship over seas so that helps me with my selling.
the 380 and the parts 550 are gone. i have a complete 550 with disk brake. it is title. i am getting it running well and tuned this weekend. yesterday was spent on the 380. the 4LS is still available and the parts 4LS is available.
