Suzuki 2 Strokes

I am just about to start the rebuild of one of my 500s, and want to confirm the colour and paint code used on the bike. It's a 1975 T500M, which I have always thought was finished in coronado blue, but I have seen people calling this colour maui blue recently, which has put a doubt in my mind. I believe the code for maui to be 797, and coronado is 279. Hopefully someone can clear this one up for me? The bike will be a bit of a special, but I want to use the stock tank, and keep the paint colour original. Below is a picture of a tank I have in the same colour.

Hi,don't be mislead! Definitely not Maui Blue...you are lucky to have the tank as a reference to go by...I'm trying to help someone here in Australia with "a blue colour" for his GS750, & all he is has to go by is pictures he's seen on the net ? But hopefully we can find something close ?

I thought the T500K was the only 500 in "coronado".

cerulean blue metallic 759
coronado blue metallic = bright blue metallic 279
maui blue metallic 797

According to this from H2Rick, the 1975 T500M is Maui Blue Metallic 797.

Hi Conner....you can appreciate my problem now....
Gt says above, that it is definitely not maui....but he hasn't said how he is so positive. The paint code list you sent a link to, is from Muzza's site, and actually makes no reference to the 75 T500M at all. So I am still unsure. This blue is probably the most common colour found on a 75 bike, so somebody must have a definitive answer?

Uh, yeah it does. Page 6, 6th line from the bottom of the table:
Your tank is a '75, based on the decals (thin gold pinstripe).

I'm unsure why GT says it is definitely not Maui. Perhaps he will chime in to his reason.

On your pic, I also wouldn't say, that's maui. But the color is aging and changes over the years.
You should have a look in the Parts Catalogue of the T500. The last three letters of the part-numbers of painted parts show the color code.
I have no T500 parts-catalogue, so I went to

there are shown the original parts-pics and -numbers.

For T500M there is only one tank listet, color 797

If you exactly want to achieve the color tone of an old paint, you have to mix the color to match the pattern.

Original colour code 279 - Bright Blue Metallic or Coronado Blue.

279 used on the 1973 T500K. (the '73 has the Nike swoosh style decal. The '75 has the thin, closed ended pin stripping)

Again, from the same document, 797 Maui Blue Metallic used on the 1975 T500M.

Hi,sorry I should have been more precise.....about Maui Blue paint,my GT750A is Maui Blue & it's nothing like the "Blue" of your bike..which appears to be a"flatter" non metallic Blue ! Even allowing for age & sunlight damage (fading) it's a different blue,a good spray painter should be able to mix something up close to what you want..good luck.

OK, it's settled, we are going for maui. I appreciate your input greatly guys...thank you. The reason I didn't find it in the list from Ozebook, was that it appears on page six, and for some reason only three pages of the list appeared for me.....
As was rightly said above, a decent painter will make a close match in any case.....

only thing is its probably not a 500M

Unless someone went through the effort to repaint the tank, and put the same factory pin stripes on it, it most likely a '75 T500M tank. I believe that it was the only year it had the outline thin pin stripe, earlier had the large Nike-like swoosh decal.

The T500M and GT500M both have the same style pinstripe, except the T500M pin stripe meets at the seat, the GT500M was open at the seat, due to the fatter tank on the GT500.
