Indeed - just amazingSuzsmokeyallan wrote:Unbelievable, when you start to consider whats going on here.

It is astounding the sorts of things people build in their sheds eh ? I visited a fellow up in Edmonton a while ago who was doing something like that (I wrote about it at this link) , although no where nearly as sophisticated as that Ferrari. Clarence is 74 years old and self taught - he has done a load of videos and just recently built an all metal guitar (see this link). The world is full of talented folks.

Re: Total devotion to the cause.
As you noted the world is full of self taught people, and there are many who put others with equal or higher levels of education to shame. I'm wondering why that builder of the Ferrari did not just recreate the car full sized as well. It would be no more effort since he had already made all the drawings and parts for the scale replica.

Re: Total devotion to the cause.
In the video, they said he made all of the molds to make parts as well. So he would need to do the same again, to build at a different scale. Don't know how much of the original 20,000 hours he spent would need to be duplicated to do it full scale, but bet it is significant.
As it is a running model, increasing size also increases the stress that components would see. That increase is more exponential than linear. Not knowing what materials he used for his model, it is likely that he may need to use different materials as he approaches 1:1 scale.
(Sorry, the engineer in me just couldn't resist. Awesome project he did. Maybe Ian's next project is a 1:10 scale, fully functional, Water Buffalo?

Re: Total devotion to the cause.
What you said is a given, BUT he had the drawings completed so a resizing for 1:1 is possible. Finding places to make the parts to the specs required would be the thing he would have to work on.
This place in Argentina does such work to the highest level possible. These are true replicas built by recreating every part to exacting detail and standards.

A You tube video showing various work in progress in the factory. Basically a hand made car just as most were created back in the time of their manufacture.
