I came across some little packets of bulb grease at Auto Zone which you apply to the metal base portion of bayonet bulbs.
This will stop corrosion from any moisture intrusion. I know Vaseline will also work but to think some one actually packaged this for use is clever marketing.

Actually after some checking, the same company also makes connector grease in the same little pouches, aka dielectric grease, so they do offer something useful.

The Autozone near me actually tapes those packets on the plug wire boxes and will charge you for it unless you ask for it to be taken off the box. I think employees are required to ask if you want the packet when buying any electrical component too. After they got to know me there they stopped asking.
No really... it's supposed to smoke.
