Talk about useable Torque

Last weekend was our monthly classic Jappa rideout. I got up early, checked everything on the GT750 and even topped up the two stroke oil before heading out to meet the group  . The initial route took me through town with traffic lights, stop signs etc and then out onto the expressway. Gave the old girl a bit of a squirt then to make sure all was running good before turning off to the normal roadways. This involved negotiating a roundabout to get onto the correct route. As I lent over and aimed for the roundabout I went to drop her down a cog or two ( to bring about a screaming exit and a smile on my face  ). However, ... my left foot jumped about and then dangled in thin air - the flaming gear change lever had vibrated off!!!!! So ... there I was braking to get around the roundabout and facing the need to accelerate out onto the correct lane with the bike stuck in 5th bloody gear   Not only that, in order to get home, I had to return along the same route. As Murphy's Law would dictate, I encountered every flaming red light en route. Oh what fun trying to start off from a dead stop in 5th gear.

All praise to Mother Suzuki though. The old girl hauled herself off the line in 5th and got up to speed each time. Not something to do daily but an experience for sure.

Luckily I had an ugly old spare at home that I was able to fit and then head back out for the day's riding 8)

So, if anyone has a nice example of the correct gear change lever for the J model do let me know.

Mike

Glad the old girl still got you home!

My own triple's gear lever likes to work itself loose over time, too, part of the regular maintenance schedule is tightening the b*st*rd pinch bolt every 1000 miles or so ... these engines are smooth when you're in the saddle but they still vibrate a fair bit
