There's an airshow this weekend about 80 miles along the coast from where I live, and the aircraft in the show, gather at an airstrip no more than a half mile from my house. We get all sorts of interesting planes landing there, but this is probably the most spectacular.
This is the only Lancaster bomber left flying.

Re: Bomber
Nice! But it's actually one of two left flying. There's one in Canada as well.

Re: Bomber
I stand corrected diamond.
The Lanc is accompanied by a spitfire and a Hurricane, and you are right fanatic....those big Merlins send a shiver down your spine....

There really is something special about those old girls isn't there? The Spitfire though has to have the ultimate sound surely??? We have a Warbirds festival down here every couple of years and the range of early war planes is just minboggling. The skills and hours involved in the restorations makes our jobs on the bikes seem a tad simple

Re: Bomber
You're right there Mike....and the cash involved too.
The Spitfire flies low over our house at speed sometimes, yet the big Merlin lump never sounds stressed....typical big V I guess. The characteristics of my 350 Vette are much the same.
100mph = 2600 rpm.

Re: Bomber
We got another treat today, albeit brief. I have lived in this area all of my life, and remember well as a kid in the late 60s early 70s, the Vulcan and Victor bombers flying over regularly, now it's once in a blue moon, and we rush into the garden to get a glimpse of them.
This is an archive picture, but it is the actual bomber that flew over, and it was about this distance above our house !

Re: Bomber
Love it! I built an Airfix scale model of the Lancaster bomber when I was a kid.
