The Gay Flight Attendant

THE GAY FLIGHT ATTENDANT

My flight was being served by an obviously gay flight attendant, who
seemed to put everyone in a good mood as he served us food and drinks.
As the plane prepared to descend, he came swishing down the aisle and
told us that 'Captain Marvey has asked me to announce that he'll be
landing the big scary plane shortly, so lovely people, if you could just
put your trays up, that would be super....'

On his trip back up the aisle, he noticed this well-dressed and rather Arabic looking woman
hadn't moved a muscle.'Perhaps you didn't hear me over those big
brute engines but I asked you to raise your trazy-poo, so the main man
can pitty-pat us on the ground.'

She calmly turned her head and said, 'In my country, I am called a Princess and I take orders from no one.'

To which (I swear) the flight attendant replied, without missing a
beat, 'Well, sweet-cheeks, in my country I'm called a Queen, so I
outrank you. Tray-up, Bitch'

A right queen he was too and while we are on this topic, as far as jobs go, its mostly true in saying that gay men seem drawn to the jobs of flight attendant, hair stylist and fashion designer.

What a load of twaddle. Do you even know any gay people? Probably do, but not aware of them because most gays are just like the rest of us and work in many different fields. You will find many gay guys doing those jobs but most are not and just get on with their jobs.

In fact, now that you mention it, the largest employer of gay people is probably the US Military and most of them keep their sexual orientation to themselves. Those we notice are the ones that flaunt their sexual orientation and they are probably a minority within a minority.

Richard are you really serious with that remark, ok let me enlighten you a bit.
For example if you lived in a small town in rural USA of about two hundred thousand people, It would be safe to say almost everyone would know all the gay people living there, plus they would also know their 'live in' partners as well.
From what I've observed, most of the males in the jobs I mentioned in my first post are not only gay, but they are also openly gay as well.
While some 'closet queens' can hide it well, its usually their partner that confirms their orientation when they are out in public.

Seriously. You intend to enlighten us about gays.

We agree on those that are out of the closet, and yes, if you know their partners you can guess their orientation, but how does that mean that most gays are flight attendants.

We know many gay and lesbian individuals and couples through friends and family and workmates in the Midwest, but I know very few in the professions you mentioned. To be fair, I realize that you didn't actually say that the majority were in those professions . You said they are drawn to them.

Maybe there's too much "reality" TV on down there in the islands pushing stereotypes. It's always good to stay away from stereotypes and generalizations don't you agree?

We know many gay and lesbian individuals and couples through friends and family and workmates in the Midwest, "and every where else in the world" but I know very few in the professions you mentioned. "I don't know which airline you fly or hair dresser you go to, BUT from my expierience "LOTS" of the "males" in those professions are gayer then a $2 bill! AND, if you want to see gays in retail come on out to the Polo store at Sawgrass mall in So. FL and you'll get you quota filled. To be fair, I realize that you didn't actually say that the majority were in those professions . You said they are drawn to them.

I totally agree with you on that. Although I prefer not to see homosexuality out in public places, I also prefer not to see heterosexual couples slobbering all over themselves in public places. My view is there'is a time and place for everything. My reality is that no one’s sexual orientation is my concern, to each their own.

BTW, what profession are you in?

True Story:

My 3-4 year old Grandson was in the shopping basket at the check out line at Wal Mart right behind an obviously gay couple, both female. One of the ladies was dressed very masculine, jeans, chambray work shirt, butch cut hair, etc. but had on sandals.

Right out of the blue, my Grandson says, "Mommie, why does that man have his toe nails painted?"

My daughter-in-law almost fainted. The lady in question just turned around and smiled and never said a word.

Richard you failed to understand one simple word I used in my original posting. I said "mostly" and not the fact that "all" gays were in those fields of work.

Alan,
I did understand what you said. It may not have been what you meant or intended, I can't tell from this distance, but I did understand teh words in that sentence.

What was said was "its mostly true in saying that gay men seem drawn to the jobs of flight attendant, hair stylist and fashion designer."

If you had said that most men in those fields are gay, I might have agreed with you, but that wasn't what was said.

If we want to deconstruct the sentence we see that it says "it's mostly true" and the thing that it says is true (mostly) is that gay men are drawn to certain fields. In truth, neither comment is accurate as written.

My comment was that while more gay men that straight may be drawn to certain professions, it's not true to imply or state that gay men are in general drawn to those professions.

The point I was making was that regardless of the intent of the comment, it was a generalization that simply reinforces stereotypes and I felt that was inappropriate and inaccurate as written.

I'm not picking on you. I'm sure you meant it as a simple joke. A throwaway line.

The fact is, that it's too easy for any of us to make comments that just reinforce stereotypes, and the danger is that over time we come to believe them to be true - even when they are not accurate. You see what I'm getting at?
