went to have a look and pay the deposit for the red T500.
the only good thing was the paint work and seat.
the rims were OK but needs new front tyre as it looked old and hard,
the pillion strap needs replacing, why bother having the seat recover but not the strap???
the engine was covered in oil and looked grubby.spokes didn't look to good either would need replacing,
front mud guard is scratched to death as well as stays are rusty.
all cables need replacing showing signs of age cracks and outer cover of wiring harness is the same as cables.
it looks as if it has spent it life outside.
and why has it only done 12000 from new??
the silencers are rusty in places and looked to me acid marks here and there.
apart from the paint work/seat it just look rough.
some thing just doesn't look right.
so I declined to buy it especially $3730
what a bloody disapointment!!!!

That's too bad John. Keep looking though, I'm sure you you'll eventually find one in nice shape (and at a reasonable price
). For that kind of money you may be able to have one shipped from the states. Have you looked into that? We have an ample supply here.

No really... it's supposed to smoke.

Hmmm.. Thats a lot of money for that condition. I can't see me handing over the equivalent of $5700 Aus for a T500 in that condition.
Keep lookin' mate someting will eventually pop up.

So sorry to hear that. It you took note, I didn't comment on it when you posted it, because
to tell you the truth, I didn't like that one as much as I liked the green one.
If this didn't go through, it means something better is in the works for you.
Good luck!

Re: what a bloody disapointment!!!!
the trouble is that the silly buggers that are willing to pay to recapture their youth are driving the prices up over here.
its not worth it for me to buy from USA by the time you add shipping import tax, registration etc , I'll be no better off.
just take a look at these wrecks!!!

with my current bike, it doesn't get used much due to the problem that I have..
numb bum syndrome also Coccyx bone gives me trouble from time to time.
I dont want to spend a lot of money on a old bike and find I'm no better.
also the longer I keep my bike the less it'll be worth regardless how many miles that I do. so I'm thinking of selling it and see what comes up next.
there are several nice sport bike for around £1500.
I dont mind that sitting my garage and getting used once in a while.
heres a couple...

I've had one of these several years ago brilliant bike.
you may wonder its a similar bike. mine a sit up type ,so all my weight is on my bottom where as the thundercat my arms etc but I rest on the tank so this takes the weight off my bottom.

Re: what a bloody disapointment!!!!
Hi John,
I reckon you will have to spend at least £3K to get a T500 in the condition your after, something that is clean & tidy with no issues.
Dont forget these bikes are touching 40 years old or older & unless they have been rebuilt from the ground up there are going to be issues to fix (rusty spokes, rubber parts cracking, rusty chrome etc).
I have been watching the prices of GT750's over the last 6 months or so & I think the prices in the UK have slipped a bit. Gt750's that made 10k seem only to manage 7k.

this is what I'm concerned about.
the last bike I paid £450 and finished up costing me nearly £3000 altogether.
no doubt it'll cost even more now.
I'm not after a concourse but for £2300 it just wasn't worth that much.

Re: what a bloody disapointment!!!!
I agree, in truth most of these project type bikes are only worth scrap value of £200 max.
But damand is pushing the prices up through the roof! And most of the parts on these bikes are useless and need replaced.
I paid £50 for my t500 box of bits, but it cost me around 5k & should be finished soon.
Some of those bikes DK spares have on eBay are worth £100 not 1k.
