now you would've thought that I should know better after all I've been using Ebay for the past 8 years.
to tell you the truth I never bothered cheecking the fees I just paid up whether I like it or not.
looks to me another way of coining more money out of you.
the £40 is 10% the rest %%
is this a good thing as it appears??






Final value fee changes affecting private sellers on eBay.co.uk





On 21 July 2011, the final value fee for fixed price listings (Buy It Now) will be changed to a flat rate of 10%, up to a maximum £40. This new flat fee replaces the current tiered structure, making it simpler and easier for you to calculate up-front the fees you'll pay. As before, you won't pay any final value fee if your items don't sell. The new calculations only apply to items listed or scheduled to start on or after the 21 July 2011.

This change affects listings of private sellers in all categories except:

Cars, Motorcycles and Vehicles
Property
Mobile phones with contract


Insertion fees and optional feature fees remain unchanged. Free insertion fees for auction-style listings with a starting price of £0.99 or less will continue to be available.

Ebay fees are bloody expensive.

Well they have got to make money I agree, but people are getting tired of being $crewed by the accountants at Fleabay.

That is pretty much why I just buy instead of sell anymore.

I think this is why cheap parts for older bikes seem to have dried up on Ebay. That or we are now holding for the next generation shift.....

Somewhere Ebay seems to have lost the plot. Surely one or two percent of something is better than ten percent of nothing?

I think you'll see another downturn of auctions in 2012 as the new tax laws start and Ebay starts providing the IRS the sellers 1099 data automatically.....

Nothing to do with accountants, bean counters or any other such group.

The reason that ebay fees have been jacked up is to increase profits to push up the stock valuation. That means that people who trade shares make more money on the increased flow of transactions and owners and senior management are more than adequately compensated in terms of stock options etc.

According to their 2010 10K report, their revenues have been basically flat for three years (higher fees and less transaction perhaps). Their big growth area in revenues is PayPal financial transactions.

Ebay shares dropped from 2005 to 2008 and have regained much of that loss in pricing over 2009 2010 despite their stalled business model and despite lower earnings per share. That alone tells you a lot about wall street.

2010 results are "only" $1.8Billion dollars of profit so you can see why they have to keep pushing prices up. They appear to believe that they have a business model that cannot be beaten.

To be fair, they have almost 3 billion in loans and other obligations!! They also have cash of $5.6 billion at Dec 31 2010.

Now I need to go and wash the taste out my mouth.

I have no choice at the moment as I do most of my sales on ebay.

sorry to say its a little bit like that on here to. what I've got on offer in for sale is very cheap no way will any one get these for such a low price and they are new.the chroming alone cost half that much!!
quite often I get request for one offs,this can turn out expensive for me.
recently I had a guy who is despesrate for a rack for his GSX750 and so far has cost me about £12 in postage and about 6 hrs work plus materials.
the material is scrapped as it was used to get the templete. this was sent backward and forth twice. he made a little mistake in the measurements.and its not a little rack either, if he decided its a no????????????
anyway I won't make it till I get a deposit off him.

John, these are the 'wannabes' people who email all sorts of questions to you, then balk at the time a reasonable price is mentioned.
If you offer a specialized service, they want it cheaper, if you don't offer it, they want it sooo badly.
A lot of people just don't stop and realize how much goes into 'technical work' that's very time consuming, not to mention your knowledge of the work itself.

AA) your expertise/experience
BB) your special tools
CC) the materials
DD) the workspace

However, that doesn't stop them from wanting the stuff you have to offer.....FOR FREE. If FREE doesn't work for you, then they're generously willing to negotiate upwards from that point. LOSERS/TIME WASTERS/WANKERS !!!
