to remember those who fought and died in the Battle of Midway, 69 years ago today. This was the turning point for the US in its long slog to victory over Japan in the Pacific Theatre in WWII. The battle has been recognized by historians as one of the great battles of history and rightly so.
If you have not done so, rent the movie "Midway" for a reasonably accurate portrayal of the events of June 4th and 5th. It's quite a story and devoid of "Hollywood-ization" for the most part.

John, it's the middle one in that feebay listing with Henry Fonda and Charlton Heston.

And, of course, today being June 6th, it's the 67th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy. A very good movie concerning that event
is called "The Longest Day"......again, IMO, a fairly accurate portrayal of the events before, during and immediately after the invasion. Hollywood actually gave the Brits quite an amount of time during this movie, although the Canadians, who played a very successful part in the invasion, are nowhere to be seen. This movie has a star-studded cast with many familiar faces being seen, the biggest two being John Wayne and Robert Mitchum.
