Watch Battery Verses Harley

Post by jkevinlilly »

My ladyfriend parked her Harley last fall, and this spring it would not start. About I month ago I fooled with it some, was able to make the starter run by jumping the battery to it, but still could not get the bike started. Last Sunday morning I spent several hours researching Harley forums and finally figured out it has a security system on it that prevents it from starting unless the the key fob, which contains a watch battery, is within close proximity to the bike. Naturally, if the watch battery is dead, the bike will not start no matter how close the key fob is.

Not that this knowledge will be of any help to anyone getting a 35 year old two stroke started, you never know when it might come in handy with a ladyfriend. :)

Same is true for the Kaw Concours 14. I carry extra batteries and there is a manual override.
