Suzuki 2 Strokes

I bought 3 gallons of ethanol free gas yesterday to get my bikes going for the spring. Oddly enough, the stuff was clear. The station - Conoco. It really reminded me of the stuff we called white gas in the 60's. It did smell like gas and not smelly like that yellow ethanol crap of today.

There is a couple of stations near me that have straight gas, I put it in my Buffalo and the car when I can, I get about 1 MPG better in the car with it.

not any chance of getting real gas near me

Are there any websites that list gas stations selling real gas?
Its an issue for vintage car people as well, so they might have a list too.

Are there issues with two strokes re: gasohol? Should I be seriously avoiding it?

Stay away from it if you can and use plenty of Sta-bil if you are storing your bikes either way. The 10% ethanol stuff turns a yellow colour very quickly and smells like gasoline you stored in a container for years, so if you have a station nearby that does not sell the 'the 10% mix' you're in business.

That's not to say that E10 WILL cause problems for you, but rather that it COULD cause problems.

Thankfully, in Alberta generally, the vast majority of stations still sell
non-ethanol gas. It seems that the provincial government here doesn't want to be seen to be encouraging E10 and upsetting the payors of major parts of our provincial revenues i.e the oil companies. The oil companies in Canada, for the most part, are not switching to E10 unless absolutely forced to by provincial government legislation.
Thank Heaven for a glimpse of sanity in government policy....at least in Alberta.

Well - not so fast ! Actually here in Alberta, most all the companies have introduced blends in their regular and mid-range fuels. and the government here has exempted the portion of fuel that is ethanol from the provincial fuel tax charged at the pump.

The last time I checked, Shell was the only Canadian company offering ethanol free premium, although that may have changed as 5% blends were approved federally in Sept/10.

Thanks for that info Ian its good to know whats going on behind the screens so to speak. So what really happens to this ethanol blended fuel at different temps, does it congeal or separate out at a specific low temperature?
I'm trying to figure out if there's a defined time frame of "shelf life" when its inside a stations ground tank during a cold winter.
So Rick, that means for your (our) summer rides west we will have to limp out of AB with just enough of their blended fuel to reach the B.C pumps for the "real stuff"

Not sure what you mean Allan - driving to BC won't save you. BC also exempts the ethanol component of fuel from its road taxes to encourage the use of more of it. As stated in my previous post, starting in September 2010, the feds approved 5% ethanol fuel blends for Canada. Last time I checked, Quebec was the only province that thought is was a separate country so basically you are SOL. Shell premium was ethanol free, as was (I think) premium from Chevron. All the others have at least some ethanol in all their blends.

As for your other question - I think Rick may have the best idea - drain all the fuel out and store the tanks dry with a bit of oil in them.
