Member Info Suggestion

Post by oldjapanesebikes »

I'm thinking it would be a good idea for members of the board to include - as a minimum at least - what country they are located in on their profile information. I think it could serve at least a couple of purposes: provide a bit of context for other members offering suggestions (as an example, if a member asks for some suggestions about re-chromer sources, there is little point in me offering the name of a Calgary based shop to someone in Australia). And secondly it may encourage more regional connections for parts swapping if it can be seen that someone is at least in the same general area as another board member. As a side benefit, I think that it also adds an additional 'I'm a real person' aspect to the member. 8)

Excellent idea, Ian.
I can't imagine why anyone who is already a member wouldn't include his country as a matter of course.
As a side bonus, if your country is included with all your posts, you help other posters to aim you in the right direction for the correct part if you're doing a resto. As many of us know, there are subtle (and some not so subtle) differences in trim items on bikes sold in the various market areas.
C'mon, board members....update your profile to include your country.

In the USA, I think it should at least be narrowed down to the state. My location says Tulsa OK and has been there since day one.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

good idea Ian.
and not forgetting guys do not expose you email address on the forum or in your profile.
and do NOT click any link that you do not recognize who put it there.
other wise nasty thing could happen to your computer as well having all your personal details stored in your PC like log in details to you bank!
yes folks it so easily done so be careful.

Good points all, But what's a bank and all that sign in nonsense. Nothing wrong with a mattress for the day I have any money to stuff in it.

Good point about security though and passwords. I won't tell my computer to keep any passwords. Nor will I send all my contact details to Google to synch to my phone. They have enough people to bother without adding all my details to their database.

Not exactly, but I don't leave passwords on my PCs - or if I do, they are embedded in a PDF file in a place that makes sense to me but not to a bot.

Scorch - isn't this something that could be required as a part of the enrolment process ?
