is what it costs to insure your bike.
Since my wife is mad to move back to Manitoba, I thought I'd check out what it would cost to insure my various bikes......especially Indy, my GT550A.
The People's Demokratik Republik of Manitoba has, of course, government insurance. There is no such thing as "basic coverage" which, in most jurisdictions, consists of public liability and property damage (PL & PD). This part of the coverage starts at $200,000 in Manitoba but I upped the value to $1,000,000 to match my current coverage......but Manitoba also includes comprehensive and collision coverage as well AND it's no-fault, too. I selected Winnipeg (the capital) as my area of residence since its "accident frequency rating" would be similar to Calgary where I currently reside.
They don't list the 550 but DO list the Buffalo, so I selected it as the nearest equivalent with a declared value of $2001 - $4000.
Bloody Hell !!! $1568.00 per year
I'm currently paying $142.00 per year for PL & PD with $1,000,000 limit but with no collision or comprehensive !!!!
Now I'm sure that if I went to my current insurer and added collision and comprehensive my current rate would take a big jump....but not to THAT height !!!
As well, Manitoba charges $93.00 for plates. Alberta currently charges $55.00 !!!
Apparently the benefits of living in the "Peoples' Paradise" of Manitoba are NOT extended to motorcycle owners/riders.
My 2006 Bandit 1200 costs the same price as my 550 to insure in Alberta BUT....in the Peoples' Paradise, the figure NOW becomes $2332 !!!
Who could afford to own/ride a motorcycle in Manitoba ?? Not too many guys that I know.
To insure all 4 of my bikes in Manitoba for ONE year is over $7000.
Now I know why I see so few bikes on the road in Manitoba. The socialists have succeeded in getting rid of bikes by way of an under-the-table method. Lovely.
What do you think the chances of my wife getting me to move to Manitoba are (at least while I'm still capable of riding my bikes) ??
