d i found this forum it will do me a lot of good. I was looking for a 2 stroke street project bike. I have always liked the 750 ran across 1 that needs a top end. They used the wrong oil. Adleast that what the former owner said. The chrome looks good from 5 feet away but has a lot of pits. Pipes are not the best looks like some Battery acid was dripped on the r/s upper pipe. Needs a seat cover also. My original plans were to completely restore it. But looks like it will cost more to do that then its worth. I came to the conclusion i might just use all the stock parts that i can and make it somewhat custom gs wheels swing arm chambers. I can always put the stock stuff back on if i decide to. I am just not sure wich way to go. There is no rush on it . I am in the process of polishing all the parts on my maxim x. Probably wont start on it till the maxim comes off the lift.
I have herd some horror stories that they mess up the crank when they seize. I used to deal with a lot of rd's and never had a problem dont think it was abused and it only has 12k miles but you never know til you open it up. Hopefully i can get some answers from the guys that really mess around with them. I have not messed with a 2 stroke street bike since the 80s. I have worked on motorcycles the past 31 years. just recently retired. I need to post my little sight of some of the bikes i have had and restored in the past 3 years in my signature here is the beast

Looks like a good candidate for a restoration, they don't make them anymore. What exactly is wrong with the motor, low compression, no compression? I don't see how running so called wrong oil would hurt anything, people ran all kinds of motor oil in them in the past and didn't wear them out just so it had oil and didn't run out and seize. The crank seals are bad to go out if the bike has sat for years, mine was bad when I got it and I had to tear it down for new crank seals and while I was at it I bored it 1st over and rebuilt it. Many time Suzuki dealers have old parts in stock that they have had for years, mine did and sold them to me at a deal. Give us some more information about it and good luck.

Looks like an easy resto or a fun custom. I try to restore bikes that are complete and make customs out of the pile of rusty parts left over...

That "wrong Oil" story sound a little fishy - unless they used fish oil, of course. Thought anything is possible. Does it run, is it stuck, does it have compression on all 3 pots? Seizing the top end is not unheard of but relatively rare. Cranks are amazing and usually need seals which is an easy Bill Bune job.

Tell us more.

the motor is seized. I dont believe it either on the oil. The p.o said he bought it from a guy that put motor oil in the injection. I dont mind if i have to send the crank out and have it rebuilt or racking my brains out having to get the cyl off and bore and rebuild it. It is kind of a weird situation when i got it. I found out the guy i bought it from deals in gt 750 stuff. he has shelf after shelf of parts motors ect. He said it was unmolested never crashed. When i drove 50 miles to see it i was un able to get back to his garage. I had surgery on my ankle 3 weeks ago to grind off some bone had just gotten my cast off. Foot is still stitched up. I sent my brother to the back yard to check it out he knows nothing about bikes just cars he told me what he saw that was wrong and said if the guy brings it up your going to load it up so i went for it. I thought it for days before thought it would be a cool bike. They loaded it The guy told me he put a helmet lock and ignition sw under the seat. well in the pics he sent key was in the ignition Didn't think anything of it. When i got home started checking it out. upper hose was cut had a broken exhaust stud the bolts were finger tight on the exhaust the head bolts were looset he shifter was just stuck on in the wrong posisition. Tach cable was laying down rs upper pipe has road rash on the rear outside of the muffler. The right side foot peg rubber doesn't match the left but there is no visable scrapes or dents to prove it was layed down. The speedo now show it is going 25 mph showed 0 in the pic. The mc is leaking fluid out of the top and the bleeders are wet. I asked if he had the airbox he said yes i got the airbox no boots missing 1 chrome cover. It is missing a bolt that holds the crashbar on and 1 bolt out of 3 on the r/s front motor mount. All the cables are off the carbs and oil pump. The bolts that hold on the motor do not look like a wrench has been put on them adleast. I wrote him after i got home. He wrote me back and told me it was a project bike and that he didnt mean to mis represent the bike and if i wanted to bring it back i could. I would have had to go rent the trailer again fork out $ 25.00 in gas just wasnt worth it
I will fix the old girl i want to pull the head off and start soaking the bolts so i can see whats wrong. I found a low mileage 75 motor that runs good pretty cheap i might pick it up just to have.
There is no rush on this I am having a 12 x 24 garage put next to my other garage for my drive on lift and my bikes and all the tools i have accumulated over the years. Right now i am polishing parts on my maxim x.And waiting for it to get a bit warmer to sell my virago.

sounds like you have plenty to be going on with, but at least most everything is still available from either mother suzuki or ebay and the like, the spare motor sounds like a good idea if it is reasonably priced.
good luck mark

Thanks for the reply i have not made my decision on it for sure yet. I bought this thing sight unseen didn't realize how tall it was. If i could get the $750 i paid for it out of it i would move on to another project. The bike would be a fun custom my problem is my legs i am walking again but my legs will never be 100 percent I have very little movement in my ankles I am 5 ft 8 with a 29 inch in seam this thing is huge i cant tippy toe any more. I don't have a problem on my bikes that have a 26 to 28 seat height so we will see what happens.
