I'm still kicking.....

But just barely, it could have been a lot worse. I was having a lot of trouble with gas, not for bikes but belching gas. It would go on for hours with pain in my shoulders and upper back, antacid and Alka Seltzers were of little relief. I had my gall bladder out a year and a half ago and thought it was from that. Then the pain started going in my arms, I was having a mild heart attack, if there is such a thing as a mild one. I had one artery to my heart 100% blocked with a blood clot and needed 2 stints to open it back up. The doc showed me the clot, tiny little 1/4" long wormy looking thing about killed me. I always thought heart attacks were pain around the heart, mine wasn't. I belched for hours and then started hurting one day at work so badly I left and went to the emergency room, they took me back right away. I spent 2 nights at the hospital and had the scope run up thru my groin to the heart to repair it, I feel fine now, just taking it easy. Got to loose a little weight and change my eating habits, not going to be easy for this Southern boy who likes anything fried but I got to. Was just off 2 weeks ago and rode the Buffalo to Barber Vintage Festival and then off to Smokies to ride the V-Strom with my wife for our 21st anniversary on the Blue Ridge Parkway, felt fine then. Everybody take care, glad to still be here.

Close call. Glad to hear you are OK.
Can I have your fries if you don't want them
Seriously though, I need to watch my diet too before it's too late.

Wow, Barry, that was a close call but I'm glad to hear you dodged the big one. Yep, you'll have to be taking a LOT better care of yourself from now on because the guys on this board AND your Buffalo for sure would miss you if the worst happened......

No, the bike starts just fine

I just wanted others to know that a heart attack may feel different than a pain around the heart. Mine was lots of belching and pain around top of shoulders and back with pain down arms.

Glad you are doing well now Barry. At least they could fix you from the outside, didn't work with me in 2008, I ended up doing the open heart replumbing routine. One artery 90%+ blocked the other around 85. Luckily, not damage to heart muscle, so complete recovery. Have lost about 1/4th of my body weight since then, on purpose. I still eat most of the same stuff I always did, just less of it. Work hard at the recovery, it is worth the effort.
My pain went from front to back through the middle of my chest, and down the left arm, just like the textbooks said it should. And since I once had EMT certification, I recognized it as soon as it happened for what it was.

Hey Barry. Fire up the grill! I use mine 4 to 5 times a week year round. Beef, pork, poultry. It all goes on the outdoor grill. Recently I upgraded to a natural gas grill so I don't have to fart around with the tanks anymore. It's a Weber Genisis and the price of admission was high, but I will use it till it collapses to the ground. It's all stainless including the cooking grids so I imagine it will last me the rest of my days.
Rules:
Never fry it when you can grill it.
Never eat just because time to eat. Eat only when your stomach starts hollerin'. And then only eat enough to break the edge.
Reduce the intake of processed sugar. I use 3/4 tsp. a day in my morning coffee and that's that. I rarely eat candy. Don't really care for sweets anymore. I guess I ate too much of it as a kid.
Rule #2 is the most important one.
So now I am 64.5 years old, 5'9" tall and weigh in at 135 lbs. fully clothed.
Don't get me wrong. I DO like a good grease hit on occasion. Like a MC Dee quarter pounder with cheese and a large fry, or some extra crispy chicken breasts fron KC, but that is controllably rare.

I grill year round but need to slow down on the ribeyes and brats, Doc said I can eat all the deer I want, so look out Bambi. I'm almost 54 and 6'4", 250 when I got sick but I've lost 10 pounds so far. We have been eating some lo fat dishes that ain't bad, what's gonna hurt is the fried chicken and fish.

Try baking the fish and the chicken instead of frying. As long as it is seasoned right, it is still really tasty. Maybe deer meat is what works for me. I normally put 3-4 in the freezer every year and use in in place of beef. I probubly have not bought any beef in at least the last 2-3 years. And like Chris says, learn to eat when your body tells you to, not the clock.
