I may get a Suzuki after all

Post by johnakay »

but not a 2 stroke,
what your opinion on this little bike.
I need some thing that I can travel in most weathers and cheap on petrol.
my 650 ninja does 50mpg but I don't really want to use it in all weathers.
I had a GSX250 about 15 years ago .good little bike and returned me 70mpg.

if I can get this one for around £350 that'll be great.it looks ok to me. but you guys with a keen eye may spot some thing that I've missed.
and I'm not going to do it up. I just want it for work and back.
here it is.............

Never rode one, but if it feels the needs you have a decent price, go for it. It looks in good condition. My only concern would be if you ever need a very high top end speed in your travels, it may be stretching it to get you there. I know the GT185 I once had had a flat out top end speed of around 70mph, with a tailwind. That doesn't even give you enough leaway to safely pass someone going 55MPH.

this will be more than fast enough for me. top speed is 90mph.
I'd be quite happy at around 70mph.
its 42miles there(work) and back !I spend $65 on fuel but I get that back in tax, thats why I need some thing that is good on fuel. my car does roughly 40mpg this bike does between 65/75 mpg at $8 (uk)gal it can get expensive.

Not bad at all. That averages around $30 an hour. I have worked the same job for over 26 years and still ain't up to that wage. :?

Not a bad price for a little commuter. Think of it as a demi GSXR.

I was thinking 250 and Suzuki usually means RGV but the GSX would be far more practical for us more mature individuals.

A GS450 would also do good. I had a GS400C (still got it), got great gas mileage (60-70) packing two, luggage, etc. The seat sucked for long rides though.

She looks like a dandy, John. Those 4 valve engines are pretty tough....if she's been looked after. Lotsa power for a 250 and they rev like heck. Yep, you should get decent gas mileage with her, for sure. Let us know how she works out....if you win the auction.

Congratulations, John! It looks very nice and should make a fine commuter.

I just looked at the listing and saw that it had ended with a single winning bid. I wondered if that was you. It looks like you got it for a great price. I've owned several GSX series bikes over the years (in this country they were called GS not GSX though) and they were all good solid bikes. I still have my GS1000.

they are an absolute buzz box but unbreakable. You'll be pushing to sit on 70mph on it for long distances though.....I had one years ago...like at least 1980, yours is in better nick and hardly used.

I'll get a little screen for it .this will ease the wind blast.
yes they are good bike Muz. I had one to.
it would do nearly 95/100mph according to the clocks.
65/70 mph will do.I can do 20.5 miles in 30 minutes in a car so I'll probably do it in 20. I will be able to get past all the workers cars at the end of the junction.

yes its ruddy cheap.the ones on EBay were little rough and average mileage where in the 30/40000 mile brkt .
and these where selling from £275 to £375 ,don't know the final bid price.
I just don't know why no one bid on the one I got because that was the best one out of them all and the only one with decent twin pipes.
I guess the good lord was looking down on me
poor Johnny I see that you will get it Image
I'll be getting it tomorrow so Iwill be give more details.
I've good ones sell for £1000.
after a year it will have paid for itself with savings in fuel cost.
