Thanks for that one John, it looks a bit painful for sure, BUT it could have been much worse.
I've had road rash before from cycle racing where some fool takes out the peloton at about 40 mph and about 60 or so of us went down in the melee.
Spandex and lycra does not fair good in any crash either but you tend to separate from the bicycle and go tumbling along for a brief moment.
Motorcycles are a completely different story than racing bicycles, you need some good armour to deflect the abrasions till you stop. Cowhide, kevlar or whatever else is fitted into gear can be the difference between walking away, or being carried away from the scene of the motorcycle accident.
Florida has the no-helmet/gear rules and many times I've seen squid bikes with rider and passenger on it going along the interstates. The rider, usually male has on short pants, sandals and a T shirt, while the female passenger has on a skimpy tube top affair with butt cheek exposed shorts and sandals. It looks good from behind but its so stupid to tempt fate this way.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Non-believers can laugh at me with my helmet, gloves, sturdy shoes, and body armor all they want.....from the window of their private room in the skin graft ward of the hospital... DRESS TO CRASH...but don't...

I learned my lesson the ONE time I went for a short ride without my jacket... wasp up the shirtsleeve...

My bike is a "bighole" I keep throwing money into, so I had to get another!

I, too, bacame a REAL believer after my first getoff many years ago while dirt biking....and my many subsequent dirt biking follies.
My "ditch excursion" with my Bandit in 2007 just reinforced my beliefs.
I walked away from that one with ZERO scratches/shed blood.....but even the best gear in the world couldn't have prevented my dislocated shoulder.
At the end of it all, though, the shoulder was a small price to pay considering what MIGHT have happened to me WITHOUT proper gear.
A word to the wise....
