Allens trip to Cowtown 09

A few photos from Allen and Bobbis trip to Calgary, taken from their photo CD of the trip.
On the day of their return to the US these photos were taken. We set off into Kananaskis Country through the Highwood pass and then into the small town of Longview.
In all, this was a short ride of about 80 plus miles in distance from NW Calgary to Longview.
After some lunch at the Twin Cities Hotel Bobbi and Allen set off towards the border and i returned to the city.
It was great to have them up for the two days in Calgary, and I hope to see them again this far north sometime soon again.

Well excuse me SIR.
Dont you do also think Allens hair is a bit too short since his head is shaved bald??

I very much regret not having met Allen and Bobbi when they were in town. They are worthy of respect for the sheer stamina of such a voyage on a 35 year old Buffalo. Amazing that it has over 140 K miles on the clock as well, but all along, I thought it was a blue one. Thanks for the pics, Allan. Cheers.

Fred the trip into Canada was short and it had all sorts of minor issues. In the photos I have, it looks like Allen and Bobbi passed the Mon/AB border crossing at Coutts in the mid afternoon sometime, yet when Allen is at the 'welcome to Calgary' city limit sign its already late evening and the sun has almost set.
Most people dont realise how far Calgary is from the border till you actually drive it,,,, anyways he called me a few times during the day to report his progress, but then he stopped calling. At around 10.30 pm he called me to say his GPS stopped working and hes sort of lost in town somewhere.
By the time i went and got him and Bobbi and stored his bike for the night it was after 12.00 midnight so that day was done.
The next day we spent most of it working on the bike, we went to see Rick at TJs and got a new rear tyre mounted, then we washed and cleaned up the bike, making it ready for the return trip south. Once that was squared away, there was some dinner and some great conversation in the evening afterwards, and so ended the second day.
The third day after some breakfast and packing up the bike it was off for the short scenic ride we did and the trip back towards Montana.
It may have seemed short but for Allen and Bobbi it was the turning point of a long trip on the bike, and I have to give them both loads of credit for taking such a journey.
Hopefully one day he will find some time to come for a bit longer so we can get in some rides out to B.C with him.

So I'm paging through my motorcycle classics and I see a GT750 and I think, hey I've seen that bike before.... then I look and see it belongs to and Allen and I know an Allen's on this board and that looks like his bike.

Then of course I realize that there are only a handful of people who still tour on buffalo's and they're pretty much all on these forums and it has to be Allen from the Sundial Board.

Nice rightup, good pictures, good read.

Congrats Allen, good job.

GSX brake discs will fit on GT's...

Yes they will, and so will GS550/750 ones, GS1150 ones (the floating rivet slotted type) as well as CBR600/900 ones from the early to late 90s with six holes.
What are you planning Paul???

Well, I've got a few surplus (slightly undersize but who's gonna know) GSX discs at home I might experiment with on my GT.

I'm guessing the disc material is better than the earlier GT stuff and will allow for more consistent braking, especially in the wet, at the expense of looks of course.
But, I had to do a double-take on those pics before I noticed the different discs.

I'll let you know what I find.
