OFF TOPIC - Things that make u go hmmmmm
Hmm, funny how we have appointed moderators who don't seem bothered in the least by subjects going off topic, who don't even get involved, make comments or chastise anyone, yet we have some control freaks who feel it is their job to police the board.
They say keep off bike related subjects and yet they still read off topic subjects and make comments to stifle fun and humour.
What is it about the Constitution, something about being free to express one's thoughts and ideas?
This Board is made up of many people from all over the world, different ideas and cultures. Everyone should be free to express themselves! And not be frightened to post something coz the "police" will be negatively commenting.
I certainly am not frightened to speak my mind, heard enough rumblings from others who are pissed off at where the Board is heading.
I was attracted to this Board because of its fun and humour, the easy going bantering, the free sharing of knowledge. This unfortunately is dying, the fun, the ease, that is.
Come on people - lighten up!!! And let the Moderators do their job, not you.

let me see if I get this straight. And I am just following the logic expressed in these posts.
I think that the point made were:
People should be free to say what they want, but other people are not allowed to disagree.
People have the freedom to post any subject regardless of the purpose of the forum and the reasons that people joined it and if anyone disagrees and tries to point that out, they are called "police" or "Douchebags".
Now that doesn't sound very appropriate to me and if you to quote the Bill of Rights, please read it and understand it and the context in which it was written.
No one minds humor or subjects wandering off topic. That's normal behavior, but the RIGHT to post carries the RESPONSIBILITY to stop and think about whether that's what the forum is for.
I have posted at great length on an off topic subject or two and we have had spirited discussions about many subjects without resorting to insulting each other.
Don't you think it might be slightly crass to insult people who come to a Suzuki 2 stroke forum expecting the posts to be mainly about Suzukis?
Please do not insult others just because they disagree with you.

I'm sure it does but can I hell find where it went wrong?
no one force you or others to read others comments. whether its Suzuki related or not .and of course you have the right to agree or disagree.
if I remember rightly it was one of you's that decided to insult.
OK I apologize to you TZ for calling you a douche bag being that it wasn't you.

Ok, I will have to agree that unnessary insults are flying here. Not needed and it just stirs things up even more, blowing things out of proportion.
However, I have a stubborn streak and I will not be bullied off this board or anywhere else. So too bad! The more I'm threatened, bullied or insulted, the more I dig my toes in. I don't scare easily. And I certainly don't like people trying to control me.
If that was not the intention, my apologies for reading more into things, that were not meant.
So shall we just agree to disagree and just move on.
Me, I'm just gonna laugh, coz it's just getting ridiculous.
And can we let the Moderators do their appointed job?

I've checked the memberslist and there aren't thousands of members, probably a couple of hundred.....after the first couple of hundred the spam registrations come in and by the last page they are all spam.
On the ozebook.com forum I religiously weed them all out as I thought they might flood the board with rubbish, Doesn't seem to happen here unless the moderators take the spam postings out.

Yep - I've made the same observation about the members list, although to be fair there are what look to be a few real ones scattered through the last couple of thousand of fake ones.muzza wrote:I've checked the memberslist and there aren't thousands of members, probably a couple of hundred.....after the first couple of hundred the spam registrations come in and by the last page they are all spam.
I've previously offered to help if its just another pair of hands that are needed.

Ian i thought that would help too but i cant keep up with it, the deletion process is not simply check the boxes and remove them in a one sweep. I wish it was but the PHPBB setup doesnt to allow for such 'user friendly' processes.
I spent hours removing a few hundred of them only to have more than what i removed back in a day or two.
The thing is quite a few of the new ones were the SAME ones again, so its obviously bots doing a portion of the spamming.

Correct - that is mainly due to the software version of PHPBB being run - if you search the net, there even videos of how to hack this version in 5 minutes. Really depressing. In discussion with Eric, upgrading isn't necessarily problem free either.Suzsmokeyallan wrote:Ian i thought that would help too but i cant keep up with it, the deletion process is not simply check the boxes and remove them in a one sweep. Perhaps the easiest thing to do at this point (easy being a relative term I realise) would be to add a 'captcha' front end to at least slow down the automated (robot) new member requests (and there are available hacks to bypass these also), remove the member list page completely (as it attracts spammers) and if not done already, update the robots.txt file to disallow most robots from looking for it.

yeah, I run CAPTCHA as well but it doesn't stop them. All I can do is every few days go through and delete the obviously fake ones and ban their ip address. It doesn't stop them however. I worry about real people getting deleted accidently sometimes because of the tsunami of fake registrations. Nothing seems to stop them. What intrigues me is that even with the fake registrations they don't seem to flood the board with bulldust postings.
ps. how are you Johhny....over your op yet? Is your wife well? You have had a bad trot lately what with losing your brother as well. Take care, mate
