not a good day.... broken bike

Post by h2thief »

Well, A nice day for a ride yesterday... 65 degrees F and lots of twisty roads that needed ridden.... going along about 60 mph when the bike lost power and started making nasty lower end noises.... pulled off the road and let her cool down for a bit and tried to start it and shut it down immediately because of the noise... not good.... got it home and pulled the exhaust to see if I could see what I could see.... nothing obvious... will continue teardown today.... I am getting discouraged... three bikes and nothing to ride.. all broken.... aaaaarrrrrrggggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!

If you want dependable make one of em a Honda. They run like sewing machines. Never break. Of course the only Honda I own is my wifes bike. But my ZRX is about as bulletproof as a Kaw can be.

Well, got the head off and found the left cylinder severely scored.... deep enough that I don't know if I will even be able to bore it.... next great idea is to take a 73 engine and fit it into my 74... I know the oil pump is different but what else will I be dealing with???? If I wasn't already a raging drunk I would be driven to drink at this point....

My friends nick-named my CB350 the 'External Combustion' machine as it caught fire twice :D :D I suppose that would have been OK if I'd a few marshmallows with me at the time.........

Well, I pulled the 73 engine out of the frame and got all the side covers off..... then off to the car wash to clean her up.... I now have it turning over and the head off... now I am trying to decide whether to tear it down the rest of the way and split the case..... everything seems to be working in the tranny and cylinders look pretty good....

After taking a second look at the plugs, two were a nice brown and the left one was too white... I had just replaced the plugs right before the ride because I thought the left cylinder was fouling.... guess I thought wrong....
