4.5" or 114mm ID Oil Seal - THIN...

Anyone in their work of personal endeavors have a line on a 4.5" or 114mm ID oil seal? Needs to be as compact as possible and thin as far as width as possible. I've found some but they are about a half inch wide... Was looking for something 1/4" wide range... No pressure differential as the backside is vented to the atmosphere...
Thanks!

Tom, I can't believe CR would not have a suitable single lip grease-type seal in those dimensions. I'll drag out my catalogue and have a look-see.....
OK.....for a 4.5" OD shaft, we have a CR45025 suitable for a 4.5" shaft with a seal width of 0.250", an OD of 5.506" that requires a fitting bore of 5.501". It has a single lip nitrile sealing element and is intended for low shaft speeds and is NOT to be used for oil retention. This is basically a grease retention/heavy dirt exclusion type of seal.
There is also its close brother that WILL handle high shaft speeds and IS intended for oil sealing. All other dimensions are the same except the width is 0.375". The part number of this one is 44959. This one has a spring-loaded single lip design and is of CR's "Wave-Seal" construction
that basically "pumps" the oil back towards the oil side due to the sine wave construction of the lip elastomer.
They also have two other designs in the narrow 0.250 width but these have an all-elastomer composition which may not be suitable for your purposes.
Helpful ?? Yes ?? No ??

Yes... very helpful... I stumbled across some good info today and found that many 5-digit seals are available at NAPA... Roger on the 44959... Also looking at 45064 and 44960 at .375" width....
THANKS!!!!!!!!!

Great, Tom, glad I could help.
That 45064 item is basically a wider version of the 44959 but it has a dual lip with the outer lip more for dirt exclusion rather than fluid exclusion. The elastomer is what CR calls a Long-Life Fluoroelastomer....and they list 2 kinds
depending on seal design and application: FKM good to 600*F and PTFE good to 700*F. Now that's a fancy Teflon to be good up to 700*F !!!
The 44960 is basically a thicker version of the 44959 with the nitrile elastomer but it has the dual lip dirt excluding design like the 45064.
Good luck with your project.
