You can never underestimate the stupidity of previous owners

Post by Craig380 »

Over on the Yam aircooled RD forum, a bloke with a GT500 has been having trouble with air bubbles in one of his oil lines (the line to the left hand-cylinder).

After looking at the check valves and seals, he pulled the oil pump to see if there was any crud blocking the pump outlet.

Everything checked out OK.

As a last resort, he lifted the head and cylinder. A previous owner had hand-made a base gasket that covered the oilway

At least he made it out of gasket material i bet,,, ive seen gaskets made where you could see it was roughly cut out and pieces were hanging free out the sides with advertising included,,,, in this instance i'm speaking about, it was 'corn flakes' base gaskets.
I wonder if the Rice Krispies ones give higher performance because they go snap crackle and pop.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

I found gaskets made from a Black and Decker sandpaper package. It wasn't leaking..........

If you stroke it more than twice; you're playing with it.

Too many bikes, too much time, ENOUGH SPACE, FINALLY! Never enough money.........

Apparently it was OK -- the other 3 oil feeds were fine so I guess there must have been just enough oil coming up from the feed to the bottom end on that cylinder to preserve it.

That says a lot about the quality of modern day two stroke oils. Oil forum, anyone? Cheers.
