Rear View Mirror Cushion??
I remember on my GT-185, from about 34 years ago, that it came with rear view mirror cushions so the view was clearer at higher rpms. None of my current bikes have them. According to the Michigan Motor Sports micro-fiche they are still available.
http://motorcitypowersports.com/fiche_s ... &fveh=1875
The part on the micro-fiche is labeled as 4. But on the parts list it is shown as 4-1 with a part number 56700-32000, and 4-2 part number 56700-45400.
Anybody know what is the difference between the two, and which would best fit a 74-750, and a 76-550?

Kevin they now come in a black colour and for the 750 they are a 10mm thread.
56700-31001 was the last number for the 77 Buffalo, however if it updates to the 56700-45400 those might be the black ones.

Sadly they dont make the chrome ones anymore, however you could get some adhesive signage vinyl chrome foil and wrap it around the collar to simulate the chrome on a set of the black ones.
PM has some NOS chrome ones in 8 and 10mm on his site every now and then but they go for crazy money.
I'll chrome a set of black ones one of these days when im doing more restoration plating work.

True - but then sometimes you get "lucky" (??) - I picked up four from PM for $78, which I thought was reasonable given what I have seen them go forSuzsmokeyallan wrote:PM has some NOS chrome ones in 8 and 10mm on his site every now and then but they go for crazy money.
Of course, the black ones are only $12 each .......

Ian i did a bit better than that, i picked up five 8mm NOS chrome ones for less than $50.00. I think it was one of those sleeper moments on ebay.
Recently i got two NOS 10mm chrome ones for about $40.00 from PM as well.

Kevin, the -31000/-31001 cushions are listed for the 750M as well as the 500A and B. The other listings, strangely enough, are mostly for dirt bikes.
They also list for the -31001 the GS550B/750B and the GT750B.
So it looks like these numbers are the 10 mm version from what I can figure out because the GS's all used 10 mm mirrors, IIRC.
The -32000 shows that it fits the 500L and a bunch of dirt bikes as well....but nary a mention of any Triples whatsoever. The dirt bikes are all J/K/L models so I'm guessing that this part number would be the 8 mm version.
There IS, however, a -36000 listed as fitting 185K and L along with the GT750L, soooo I'd be betting that this one is the 8 mm version, as well.
As to which ones are chrome and which ones are black, I have noooooo idea.

My GT parts book lists the 8mm version as no. 56700-36000.
The 10mm version as no. 56700-31000
These numbers from a parts catalogue dated 1975.
Hope this makes things clear, or chrome. Cheers.
