Good luck wity the surgery, John. I am much like you, I can't sit still. I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery and being down sucks, but sometimes, you just have to do it.

Enjoy you vacation and best of luck with your down time.
I look forward to the Egyptian jokes you find in your history books.

The length of time for your recovery seems to be dependent on your general health level and the size of the surgeons hands.

Your fitness and general health makes a huge difference, so time to pack in some exercise (nothing silly mind) and watch the diet. The healthier you are going in, the faster you heal after. Bit obvious really.

My surgeons must have have hands like feet because they left me with a scar from one inch right of my navel to my side. The issue that causes is the amount of muscle they have to cut through to get the kidney out. That's what takes time to rebuild. The staples come out soon but the internal stitches take a while to dissolve, so that limits your ability to lift things and bend , so don't be a hero. I was out of hospital within a few days and got rid of the narco painkillers a day or so after that and moved to something less strong so I could function.

The pain you can manage, but it does slow you down for a few weeks.

So get healthy, do what needs to be done before the op and don't rush after.

it is never too late. Start with taking a walk around the block every morning or evening - or both.

December 27 will be nine years for me. My scar is like that, just under fourteen inches long. I was misdiagnosed for almost a year, my entire left one was a tumor. Ten months later they found several small ones in my right lung. Eleven months on Interfeuron shrunk them and I am cancer free. A positive attitude is everything. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

My thoughts exactly. I never doubted that my surgery was just a bump in the highway of life. And damn it, this time I was right. :D
