Holy chit man!. Are those the same exhauts?? GREAT JOB!! I know how it is. You get a vision of how things should be and then do everything in your power to make it happen. You have a right to be proud of your achievements. NICE!
How did the front disc end up on rhe right?

That is sweet. Did you get the exhausts rechromed? I've been toying with getting my pipes rechromed. Any good or bad experiences out there on what to look for, or avoid?

Wow. What a difference!
How did you get the chrome cleaned up - new parts, rechroming, or just a lot of steel wool and WD40?
Same question on the bodywork - did you have everything stripped and repainted or did you find new parts?
I'm still in the cleanup phase with mine but I do have pretty good chrome to start with.

The GT500 had it's disk on the right. I think that's the correct side for the 550 also. Kaw puts their single disks on the left.

I stand corrected Lane. I guess I forgot now that mine has 2. It is on the left on the GS1000.

Right side is correct. If you wnat the disk on the left, or if you want dual disk, you have to use the GT750 fork legs.

Hey Ed..... I did not restore that bike.. I just changed a few parts and painted some others... This was one of the GT550J bikes that I got from Frank T. It was already in pretty good shape... I am mostly a rider.... You are the "restorer".. Stuff that most folks would cut up for scrap, you have a talent for bringing it back to life..... You did a great job on your 550 !!!

Nice job Ed.
I started on a similar "parts swap" resurrection on a $150 76 550 early last spring, but got sidetracked by summer, some health issues, and now hunting season. But I have fixed some of the major issues (that I have discovered of so far:^)), obtained most of the needed replacement parts, and figure sometime after Christmas to start back in on it.
Hopefully it will turn out looking as nice as yours by spring.
